Scottish band Cold Years just announced their 2nd album “Goodbye To Misery” for April 22nd, 2022. They also shared their new single/video “32”.
“32” is Cold Years’ signature “Welcome To The Black Parade” that fuses MCR, Green Day and Queen into a theatrical punk rock anthem.
“32 is our ‘fuck it, let’s just run away’ song that best conveys the message of the album. It’s about overcoming difficulties and growing as a person.”
“32 came out of nowhere. We wanted to do something different and really explore our sound. In the first few months of lockdown, I really struggled with loneliness. I didn’t feel at home in my home and I was fed up with it. This is our ‘Screw it, let’s just run away’ track and best expresses the album’s message, which is about overcoming difficulties and growing as a person, facing all your fears and insecurities, and realizing that you can do it is not alone. It’s so different from anything we’ve done before and to be honest, we had to do it. It’s over the top, it’s punk rock on steroids and we can’t wait to play it live.”
The band has previously released new tracks, taken from “Goodbye To Misery”.
“Kicking & Screaming” is a high-energy punk rock anthem about changing your life and the world around you for the better. Sam Ogden from Static Dress plays the drums.
“This song is about getting out of a really toxic environment. Whether it’s a relationship or a job or a home, it’s about removing that from your life because you deserve better. Then it’s like ‘bang’, you suddenly find something that is worlds away and life just seems so much better. I’ve been in bad situations so many times in my life and couldn’t see a way out, but now I’m much more positive. You have to fight or flee, you have to take risks and do what’s best for you.”
“Home” is a bittersweet hometown anthem that blends punk with heartfelt blue-collar rock ‘n’ roll, like Against Me going for a beer with the Foo Fighters.
“Home” is about the pitfalls of growing up in a small town. The industry is on the decline, shopping malls are empty, Aberdeen is a deserted, dirty ghost town but I love it. I love my homeland and I love the people there.”
“Headstone” is the first single release from Cold Years ‘ highly anticipated second album and shows Cold Years breaking through a wall at 1000mph with a newfound momentum.
With a nod to the best of Green Day, “Headstone” is a coming-of-age story that chronicles singer Ross’ years of debauchery with the ups and downs that come with hard partying.
“This song shows the vulnerability that comes with growing up. The highs you experience and the lows that hit you the next day and the guilt that comes with it. If I keep going like this, I will die. I’m going to die too young and I don’t want to, so I have to pull myself together and stop it now.”
The 2nd album ‘Goodbye To Misery’ can be pre-ordered from March 4th and will be released on April 22nd, 2022. With a change of scenery and a new approach to songwriting, ‘Goodbye To Misery’ consists of 12 tracks born out of a desire for a more positive future rather than the self-destruction and misery of 2020’s ‘Paradise’.

For the recording process in May 2021, the band once again traveled south to The Ranch Studios in Southampton to work on the new album with longtime collaborator Neil Kennedy (Creeper, Boston Manor, Milk Teeth).
“With this record, we want to say that you can break away from the things that bring you down. It’s about standing up for yourself and not letting anyone tell you what you can and can’t do. It’s a defiant statement.”
Cold Years have already made it with their recent singles in playlists like New Punk Tracks, The Punk List, Pop Punk’s Not Dead, New Noise, All New Rock, Rock Rotation, Rock ‘n’ Run, and The Scene. The pre-single “Home” is Cold Years 4th track in the top 5 of the German rock radio charts. A European tour is already on the horizon in May along with summer festivals in the UK and Germany.
