We are so excited to share the awesome news of Hey Violet signing to Hopeless Records. As the Los Angeles based alt pop band ushers in a new era the release of their new single, i should call my friends makes a big splash. The infectious new track will have longtime fans and new ones dancing along in no time.
Vocalist Rena Lovelis shares of the Track:
“i should call my friends” is a cry to a nostalgic reminiscing of youth and the song is simultaneously calling out bad habits I (Rena) slip into sometimes, like isolating and not keeping in contact with people as much as I normally would. This song is a super fun but acutely self-reflective anthem that paints a picture of a widely felt human experience – our need for connection with each other and compassion for ourselves. This song really touches on struggles with mental illness and how that in itself can make one feel incredibly disconnected. We want listeners to know that if you feel that way, you are not alone.
Collaborating with Matt and John (O’Callaghan of The Maine) was genuinely incredible. Fun fact, we were in production on this song and actually mentioned “Miles Away” and “Blame” by The Maine for drum tone references and overall song vibes – we are not afraid to fangirl! We overall wanted to write something true to us that would capture that natural feeling of getting older and watching the people you love grow up. In terms of recording, we approached this era as a blank canvas, but intentionally keeping in mind what we wanted these songs and our shows to feel like when we’re playing live. We’re so excited “i should call my friends” is the first track kicking off the new era and we can’t wait for our fans to hear what’s coming next.”
