New Jersey rock powerhouse Palisades released their newest single and video “Better” today.
Furthermore, the band announced their new album “Reaching Hypercritical”. It will be released July 22nd via Rise Records. It follows their latest album “Erase The Pain” from 2018. “Better” talks about topics concerning mental health, amongst them the experiences of frontman Brandon Elgar with agoraphobia, chronic fears, depression, and dissociative disorders. Talking about the single, Brandon says:
“What I want people to get out of this song is, I want them to feel safe listening to it… especially if you suffer from these things. At the end of the day, it’s all that I want to feel, is better. And I think that’s why that became such a stamp in this song because I think that’s what everybody wants to feel… Awareness is important, being kind to people is important. So I hope you get satisfaction out of this song like it has done for me.”
A few weeks ago, Palisades released the music video for “My Consequences”, which reached almost 300k views on YouTube so far.

In the past two years, the consciousness for the nuances of “normal” life often got lost. Tests, traumas, love, and loss were still present, even though they were ignored.
The band – singer/bassist Brandon Elgar, guitarists Xavier Adames and Matthew Marshal and drummer Aaron Rosa – have been forced to deal with everything, from line-up changes to the death of a loved one, while they simultaneously tried to record a new album in the most unsafe times the music industry ever had to get through.
“It’s a been a pretty drastic progression musically,” drummer Aaron Rosa tells about “Reaching Hypercritical”. “This album really captures how the band has matured while being brutally honest with ourselves about all the tough moments that were going through our heads while making the record. Reaching Hypercritical is a true demonstration of how the past few years have changed us as people, as a band and what Palisades’ music stands for.”
Some of the changes derive from the recent line-up changes in the band. Frontman Lou Miceli left the band and singer/bassist Brandon Elgar joined them as sole vocalist. This made it possible for the band to concentrate on the passion, the drive, and the raw talent of their new frontman, whose cathartic presence is the perfect inspiration for their emotional songs.
While the atmosphere in the band is currently exciting and promising, the stony path, which Palisades had to cover, reflects in the serious, introspective, and often very dark perspectives of their music. Mental illness and divorces are two serious topics the new album deals with, while Aaron used the opportunity to talk about his father’s death, who passed during the writing process for “Reaching Hypercritical”.
“In terms of both our mental health and our career, it very much felt like we were reaching a hypercritical point,” he says of the band’s recent experiences. “You have all of the uncertainty that was brought on by a pandemic while life continues to do what it does. My father was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer and died two months later. It was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to deal with, and in the middle of that, we were still trying to write a record. That moment in my life and some of the traumatic experiences of the other guys in the band really shaped this record. Ultimately, it altered the entire tone of the record and truly what the songs meant.”
