I just received the news that the talented musician and wonderful soul, Zach Sobiech that I interviewed last December has passed away on May 20th. We all knew that Zach had just a few months to live since we spoke with him back then but it just breaks my heart. His positive outlook on life and death, truly touched me and I believe every person that he was in contact with was also touched by his fighting spirit and his pure love for all. He will be truly missed but never forgotten. His advice and words will live on and we can all learn from this brave young man. Here is a video documentary that SoulPancake made about Zach and his Last Days.

Here is the video of the Celebrities Clouds video:

Lastly, here is our tribute video to Zach Sobiech, we used his Go To Song for it, “Who Needs Air” by The Classic Crime.

I have also included our original interview with him. Please watch the video and also see how you can donate to the Zach Sobiech Research Fund of Children’s Cancer Research Fund.

Here at Music Junkie Press, we have always been firm believers that Music is the healer of the soul, mender of broken hearts, rainbow in the storm and a true friend. I even have the motto, “Know Music = Know Life, No Music = No Life” on my cards and as my personal way of life.  Some other well known quotes about music, some old and some new:

“Without music, life would be a mistake.”  ― Friedrich Nietzsche

“One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.” ― Bob Marley

“People haven’t always been there for me but music always has.” ― Taylor Swift

“Music was my refuge. I could crawl into the space between the notes and curl my back to loneliness.” ― Maya Angelou

“Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent.” ― Victor Hugo

Music is a higher revelation than all wisdom and philosophy.  – Ludwig van Beethoven

Music is the shorthand of emotion.  – Leo Tolstoy

Also one of my main questions when I interview musicians has always been to inquire as to a particular time in one’s life when music helped them the most or saved them. I have heard so many wonderful stories of how music helps  but none more so than that of Zach Sobiech.

Zach Sobiech, a sweet faced 17 year old from Lakeland Minnesota  is using Music as a way to say his last goodbyes to family and friends. Zach was diagnosed at the young age of 14 with a rare form of bone cancer, Osteosarcoma. Zach has endured numerous surgeries, treatments and scans over the years and recently has found that the cancer had spread. Due to the spreading and no effective treatments left, Zach has been told he has only months or possibly a year left of his life. I will carry hope and keep Zach and his family in my prayers.

Through all of this, Zach had turned to music and even though he has been playing guitar since the age of 11, he recently wrote and recorded a song, “Clouds” as his way to say goodbye.  This song is phenomenal. I have reviewed hundreds and hundreds of songs and when I heard Zach’s song and heard it was his first recorded song, I was floored. He has such a beautiful voice and lyrically he has written some of the most awe-inspiring lyrics. I am telling you I can’t wait to listen to Zach’s other songs because this was really a treat.  His style is like Jason Mraz, David Gray, James Blunt but Zach brings his own uniqueness to his songs.  You can watch Zach’s video here:

Clouds is available for download on Itunes and the proceeds will go to the  Zach Sobiech Osteosarcoma Fund.  You can read more about Zach’s story on the Children’s Cancer Research Fund Website. Please take the time to download the song and with a $20 donation you will receive a copy of Zach’s album “Blueberries” that features “Clouds”.

We were able to check in with Zach and get a short interview with him. Here it is:
