The multi-platinum rockers Candlebox have returned to San Francisco for a stop on their Disappearing In Airports tour. They played at Slim’s on Saturday night and it was a packed house! They are touring in support of their highly anticipated album, Disappearing in Airports, which is set for an April 22nd release.
The night kicked off with a great set by Peter RG as he got the crowd ready to rock and you will see a couple Candlebox members in Peter RG.
Next up was the insanely energetic Lullwater. We caught them last year out on tour with Butcher Babies and Amaranthe and it was great to see them raise the roof off Slim’s.
The crowd was filled to what must have been capacity as there was no room to move about as Candlebox hit the stage. Everyone wanted to be up front for their incredible set. They were amazing and their sound was timeless as many longtime fans found themselves back in the ’90s singing all of their favorites. What was quite impressive was the warm reception that their new songs received. Many fans already knew all of the words of the new songs, and were rocking out.
The crowd was filled with long time fans as well as a slew of new ones. You could tell that many songs were like a time machine for many, as they were immediately transformed into their former selves, carefree dancing and rocking out. Just the way it should be. I, myself was remembering how Candlebox was the soundtrack of my twenties. Now, over twenty years later it was a renewed passion for their music and you can’t help but embrace their rockin new tracks. In a time where music has been categorized and boxed in, Candlebox defies genres and has successfully created music that tears down the walls and invites all. Whether you are a new fan or longtime follower, one thing is certain, we can all declare Candlebox ROCKS!
One of the highlights was when they performed their new song, Vexatious. Candlebox frontman and founder, Kevin Martin explains about the song,
“‘Vexatious’ is about the social networking-obsessed, unlimited bragging rights society we live in, where people come off as entitled yet so insecure. Whether it’s a pop star feuding senselessly with another pop star, or people who can’t help but to take 50 different selfies in under a minute missing everything that’s happening around them, it’s a sad commentary on life that we can’t escape. Dating apps, bitching apps, secret sharing apps, apps, apps, apps-they all operate outside of any real or authentic human connection. It’s disconnect everywhere and it’s destroying us. No one cares what anyone else thinks or feels. It’s all ‘me, me, me’ and, if you ask me, it’s fucking sad.”
They have just released a video for the song and you can check it out here:
The band will continue on their headlining spring tour that will take them into the first week of May, including festival stops at Welcome to Rockville and Carolina Rebellion. Check out the list of tour dates below:
