The Music Junkie Press “After Golden Gods Awards” Awards!!

revolver

Well I am home from my trip to the 5th Revolver Golden Gods Awards which took place last week at the Club Nokia in Los Angeles. I hope all of you had a great time watching the Black Carpet and the award show live on XBOX, Facebook or AXS TV.  There was so many great stories to share from that night, some we may have to keep quiet; but all in all it was a fantastic show.

Sadly, hours before the Black Carpet, we got word of the passing of the great Jeff Hanneman from Slayer who died at the young age of 49 from liver failure. The night soon became filled with stories about Jeff and tributes to our fallen hero. Many drinks were shared and toasted to the life of Jeff and he will be greatly missed.

Our List could go on and on with the highlights of the night but I thought we would have fun with the above awards.

My last thought for you has to do with respecting each other in the Metal community. David Draiman touched on this during his acceptance speech which he calls for unity amongst us all. I can’t stress that enough.  I feel that to boo a band at any time especially when they are accepting an award, is the poorest of taste and disRESPECTFUL. Come on people, we are starting to look like a bunch of 1Direction and Beiber fans who are hating on each other for their musical preferences.  I thought we have all grown by now. I lived through the 80’s, 90’s – the Metallica/Megadeth, Stones/Grateful Dead, Van Halen Pre-Hagar/No Hagar, NoDave, With Dave, No Michael,With Michael and it can go on and on.

Seriously, any love for music is a love that has to be respected. I am not on one artist’s side or another, I am just against hate of any type. During the Award show, there was some people sitting next to us who started to cheer for a band, and the person in front of them turned around and started yelling at them, being a complete BULLY! Later the person next to us didn’t cheer at all the rest of the night. Lost their own voice because some intimidated them.  It is time to be more open minded and respectful to eachother. We are all in this crazy world together so let’s make the best of it and listen to some music!
