Here we go, for another Triple Vinyl Tuesday. Let’s get down to spinning!
Our Old or Vintage Vinyl is:
Steve Miller Band – Book of Dreams
Label: Capitol Records Release Date: May 1977
This album was the tenth by the Steve Miller Band and it was recorded right here in San Francisco at the CBS Studios. Interesting enough, the album included leftover material that didn’t make it on the Fly Like an Eagle album. The album was a true pinnacle for the Steve Miller Band and with it’s diversity was a complete musical gem. Capitol Records and UMe are celebrating 50 years of recording music for Steve Miller Band and have some exciting plans for the extensive catalog as Steve Miller opened his private vault/warehouse of music, footage, photos, memorabilia, artwork and more. You can read more about it here.
Features: Rock and roll with a boogie twist. classic 70’s style and blended prog rock and blues rock. Very diverse album that evoked a variety of vibes for the fans. Synth heavy tracks, smokin guitar riffs
Favorite Tracks: Jet Airliner and Jungle Love
Our New or Current Vinyl is:
Black Pistol Fire- Don’t Wake The Riot
Label: Modern Outsider Release Date: May 20, 2016
This is one of the best albums out there today. You can play it easily, from front to back and turn it over again. It never gets old. I first was turned on to Black Pistol Fire when we photographed them at BottleRock Napa Festival 2016. Two guys who came out and outperformed nearly every band that day! Their energy and sound was non-stop and powerful, completely awe-inducing. Then when you play the album, it brings back the exact energy that they delivered in a live performance. Truly remarkable to have a studio album capture that live vibe.
Features: infectious fuzzy guitars, heart pounding drums, powerful emotive vocals that draws you into their emotion
Favorite Tracks: Copperhead Kiss and Hard Luck
Our Wild Card is:
Shotgun Messiah – Second Coming
Label: Relativity Records Release Date: October 22, 1991
I got turned on to this album when I was given a huge box of CDs from the 80s and 90s many years ago. From the first listen I was blown away but the fierce punch of “in-your-face” rock. I was hooked and I soon wore out the CD from so much play. The album is a solid rock album complete with a couple epic ballads. I had to have it on vinyl and my search took nearly two years to finally snag one on vinyl. It is one of most treasured vinyls. Happy hunting for this one if you aren’t already luck to own it.
Features: Vocals, vocals, vocals, truly unique and addictive vocals with the right balance of angst and rock n roll attitude. Punchy drums, liquid basslines, along with some sensational solos.
Favorite Tracks: very hard to narrow down but Babylon (cover) and Heartbreak Blvd.
Stay tuned each week as we pick 3 more Must-Have Vinyls.
