Concert Review: Devin Townsend Project, Periphery and Shining NOR at Backstage, Munich by Alexandra

March 13, 2015

Contributed by Alexandra Backstage – Werk, Munich, March 10, 2015   First up, it was an amazing, fun and entertaining evening with three awesome acts and never one minute of boredom. The venue was almost sold out, so the room was packed. The Norwegian Band Shining started the set a little earlier than announced at about 7.45 pm. As singer Jorgen Munkeby stated, they started out in 1999 as a Jazz combo and now it’s ‘Jazz-Metal’. Jorgen himself plays guitar and saxophone and boy can he play that one. He’s getting all that noises out of his instrument. It’s stunning. If you’re a fan of the experimental kind of music, you’ll sure like them. I did! Their latest album ‘One One One’ was released 2013. Make sure to check them out. Second act of the evening was ‘Periphery’. They were well known by a good part of the audience and I’m pretty sure they drew many people there that night. Being a quite popular act in the US already, considering the audiences reactions, they could [Read More]

Prepare to be blown away by The Glorious Sons on their current tour

February 23, 2015

With my schedule of concert and festival coverage I probably get in about 250 sets a year and sometimes I come across a band that I know will have me thinking about their performance long after. Most recently, I had the experience when I caught The Glorious Sons from Ontario, Canada as they made a stop in San Francisco at the DNA Lounge. They put on an incredible set that had me grinning from ear to ear as I watched a band for the first time and knew that it will definitely not be my last. They are currently on tour with 10 Years for the From Birth To Burial Tour which also includes Otherwise and Luminoth. We had the chance to chat with the band shortly before their set, check out the interview here: We featured The Glorious Sons just a couple weeks ago as one of our Bands of The Day because their infectious rock sound captured our attention from the first listen. Of course, seeing them perform live completely blew us away. [Read More]
