Matt Jaffe  and the Distractions expand their LA audience at The Federal Bar in NoHo.

July 10, 2014

By Patrick O’Heffernan, Host, Music FridayLive!  Matt Jaffe brought his high energy rock band The Distractions to North Hollywood’s Federal last night, energizing a respectable audience and demonstrating that he can play in larger venues in Los Angeles, the nation’s music capital.  This was a return trip for the young new wave band, having previously opened for bands at The Central in Santa Monica and the venerable, if smaller, The Mint. The young (he just finished his first year at Yale) northern California-raised guitarist and his band mates drummer Alex Coltharp and bassist Sammie Fischer have mastered the high-spirited sound that he shifted to when he exchanged the acoustic music of his high school days for an electric guitar.  With songwriting that shimmers with the best of the hard rock groups in the Southland clubs these days, Matt led his bandmates in nine new songs that showed how he has moved far beyond the slick blend-into-the-background pop music that surrounds us. And his lyrics always give us something to think about. I suspect the audience would [Read More]

Weezer announces release date for new album, Everything Will Be Alright in the End

July 9, 2014

It is Wednesday, so it must be time for Weezer Wednesday news!! Yes, Weezer has announced the official release date for their new album, Everything Will Be Alright in the End as September 30, 2014. They have also posted another teaser video which is getting us all excited and can’t wait for the new release. Check out the latest video which features a snippet of their new song, Return To Ithica here:   Earlier this year, we had the opportunity to catch Weezer when they performed at Bottle Rock Napa 2014  and they truly took over Day 2! One thing is for sure, Weezer knows how to insure everyone is having a good time. They put on a set filled with fan favorites and the crowd was singing along and dancing. The crowd was filled; from the stage all the way back to the vendor booths. Even in the blistering heat, people couldn’t help but dance around as if at one big party! Definitely a big highlight for me at this year’s Bottle Rock. Check out [Read More]

Our Warped Tour discovery highlight goes to One OK Rock

July 8, 2014

Vans Warped Tour truly brings so many great bands to everyone, some you may know, some you may have heard of but never seen and some you may have never heard of before. The great thing about Warped Tour is the exposure that these bands receive and how they make so many new fans after their performances. Our Warped Tour discovery highlight choice goes to a band that I have never heard of or seen before and when I did, they completely blew me away!  They are One Ok Rock from Japan. I wish I had learned of them sooner because I would have been cranking them out loud for the past several years! One OK Rock have an aggressively live performance that completely captivates you. Their songs blend rock and metal with some fierce Japanese flair. Their stage presence is one of the best and will take you by surprise if you happen to be walking by the Beatport Stage. That is how we found them and thankfully, we walked by on the first [Read More]

The Lost Boys set to release Sleepless Nights on July 16 and will perform select dates on Warped Tour

July 7, 2014

The Lost Boys are set to release their new EP Sleepless Nights at midnight on July 16th. The EP was produced by Tyler Smith of Dangerkids (Rise Records). The five track EP is filled with fun, energetic songs with emotionally driven lyrics. It can be described as a pop punk but as they say, ‘The Lost Boys aren’t trying to fit into any style or genre, they want to leave their audience thinking about the stories they tell’. That is exactly what they deliver, solid well crafted songs delivered in a fun energetic sound. Lost Boy has a great anthemic youth vibe that will have you singing along in no time. Bad Names is my personal favorite with it’s catchy chorus and high spirited sound yet Overreaction has a very infectious beat and reminds me of a Blink 182 vibe. They in no way imitate because they really have their own sound that can stand on it own. The EP is the perfect soundtrack for your summer of “feel good” songs to bring your spirit back to life.
