Watch Matt Nathanson’s inspirational new video for Headphones featuring his trip to Peru

October 23, 2014

Matt Nathanson recently made a trip to Peru with the Starkey Hearing Foundation on a mission to fit people with free hearing aids. As Matt says, ” i’ve been trying to write a short piece about my experience for weeks now. it’s been really hard. words kinda fail it. if i didn’t have my hearing, i wouldn’t have music. and if i didn’t have music, i definitely wouldn’t have survived my childhood. listening to albums and seeing bands and being connected to songs was EVERYTHING to me. it still is. it makes me feel not alone. it helps me transcend my broken brain. in fact, the only reason i play music is because i love it so much. i couldn’t stay on the sidelines, i HAVE to be a part of it. Going to peru was super heavy. the people were incredible. to be in service to them, to assist in connecting them to their kids laughter, to their parents voices, to MUSIC!… it was completely humbling. and overwhelming. i felt love and gratitude towards [Read More]

Cocaine Cowboys from PERU release video for their bad ass rock track, Come N’ Get It

August 5, 2014

Just last month we introduced you to the hard rock band from Peru, Cocaine Cowboys. In case you missed it, you can read that article here: Cocaine Cowybos from Peru. Today I want to share with you their live video feature celebrating their 2nd anniversary as a band. The song is their bad ass track, Come N’ Get It. Check out the video here:   They have fierce guitars, gritty powerful vocals and a style that screams Rock! I just love those vocals, they are almost a blend of Tom Keifer and Sebastian Bach. Love them! The guitars have this dirty, raw edge vibrato similar to a Velvet Revolver style. The spot on precision drumming comes in and set the even tone without being overbearing which can happen so much with today’s music. I am really looking forward to check out more of their music. They are currently working on their debut album. Band Members: Vitucho – Vocals Diego Daga – Guitar Miki Tay – Guitar Kike Ilave – Bass Carlos Llontop – Drums Make sure to [Read More]

Our Tuesdays Travels Band is Cocaine Cowboys from PERU and they are going to ROCK YOUR WORLD!

July 29, 2014

We return with our Tuesdays Travels where we highlight a band from another country. Tonight we travel all the way to South America to a town where I visited back in 1983 with my parents; Lima, Peru. I am sure when people think of Peru, they think of Machu Picchu or the great food (particularly my famous Causa or Papa a la Huancaina), and not ROCK n ROLL. But Peru has a great history rich in culture/music and if you haven’t read it yet, check out my article, Punk Rock Originated in Peru with Los Saicos in 1964.  Yes, I am proud to say that I am 100% Peruvian so this is quite an honor to find a band that I completely ROCKS and is from the hometown of my parents. I am talking about the bad ass rockers, Cocaine Cowboys. Cocaine Cowboys is a hard rock band from Lima, Peru that bring to life my love for straight up ROCK n ROLL. They have fierce guitars, gritty powerful vocals and a style that screams [Read More]

Punk Rock originated in Peru with Los Saicos in 1964!

August 28, 2013

I have always loved Punk Rock. I remember back in High School in the early ’80s and I think it might been my classmate and friend Chris who listened to The Clash and opened my eyes to the new sound. I was listening to everything at the time. I have always been open to all music and have had a love for all types of music. I could listen to some Hank Williams Jr. or Randy Travis one minute with my then boyfriend and then would listen to some Ratt or Scorpions out cruising with  my friend Sheila, then would head home to listen to some Michael Jackson or other pop bands. But I do remember listening to The Clash and thinking, this is different and I LIKE IT! I soon developed my taste for punk as I started checking out The Ramones, Sex Pistols and so much more. I of course thought Punk originated in UK or maybe even New York….. but guess what….. I was wrong… I recently was asked to view a [Read More]
