Concert Review – Moose Blood w. Luca Brasi and PUP in Munich. Contributed by Alex Bock

September 20, 2016

Munich, Strom, 09/16/2016 One day before the world famous Octoberfest opened its gates in Munich, Moose Blood came to town. It was the 4th stop on their current tour through Mainland Europe. They brought Australian band Luca Brasi and PUP from Toronto, ON along. Both bands punk influenced had the crowd going from the get go. Lots ‘n lots of stage diving and loud singing to their songs. What’s fascinating about Moose Blood is that they can get a crowd going nuts without a massive stage appearance. It’s just four guys, playing their instruments, no great amount of jumping around, no big light show, but nevertheless everyone went wild and crazy. There was no stopping the fans from stage diving and constantly pushing and shoving while screaming their hearts out to songs like ‘Bukowski’, ‘Pups’, ‘Swim Down’ and ‘Knuckles’. Here are a few impressions: Lucas Brasi PUP Moose Blood Keep updated on further tours and music releases via the band’s social media Moose Blood https://www.facebook.com/MooseBlood/ http://mooseblooduk.com/ https://twitter.com/mooseblooduk https://www.instagram.com/mooseblooduk/ PUP https://www.instagram.com/mooseblooduk/ http://www.puptheband.com/ https://twitter.com/puptheband https://www.instagram.com/puptheband/ Luca [Read More]

William Control releases new song and video. By Alex Bock

September 5, 2016

Just in time for the start of the ‘Snyths and Sinners’ tour through the UK, William Control released a new song/video called ‘The Monster’. For now it’s a Youtube exclusive. Reason for this is that Control Records signed a distribution deal with Artery/Sony/Red, which is a pretty big deal as it’s giving the band the chance to get their music out to more people than they could do on their own. ‘The Monster’ is the first single of the ‘The Pale E.P.’ The upcoming record is called ‘Revelations’ and will be split into four E.P.’s – Pale, Black, Red and White. The Pale E.P. will be released in mid October. For now, make sure to check out the video Also don’t miss out on catching William Control and the Neuromantic Boys live on their current tour through the UK Go follow William Control on his social media www.facebook.com/williamcontrolofficial http://www.williamcontrol.com http://twitter.com/williamcontrol http://williamcontrol.bigcartel.com www.controlmerch.com Snapchat williamcontrol ~ Contributed by Alex Bock, https://twitter.com/abphotomjp

Concert Review Free & Easy Festival – August 3rd, 2016 (Club) – The Real McKenzies

August 18, 2016

I made my third trip to the Free & Easy 2016 for a special treat, The Real McKenzies. What sounds like a band from the Scottish Highlands is actually a six piece from Vancouver, British Columbia. According to their facebook page they are ‘The Original Celtic Punk band’ and if you’re ever watching a live set of the band, you’ll probably agree to that. Opening bands were Beeswax from Germany and Igel Vs. Shark from Austria. Both bands sounding differently from The Real McKenzies musicwise, but then, how many bagpipes do you hear in rock/punk music?! Throughout the first two bands the audience was really reluctant, interestingly it was the same case in the venue next door. For the first half of the evening we switched locations and moved around a lot to get some impressions of the other bands playing the festival and there was the same situation in the Halle too. You could easily stand in front of the stage with no one behind you, even if you just came in through the [Read More]

Concert Review Free & Easy Festival – July 31st, 2016, Part 2: Lionheart

August 16, 2016

So I left The Dead Daisies a bit earlier to catch some of Lionheart’s show next door. I checked the Halle a few times that night to get a glimpse at the opening bands and the later the night, the hotter it got there. The temperature outside was by far colder than inside, so at first I had to clean the fog from my lens a few times, because it felt like a sauna in there. Five seconds in and you were drenched. Lionheart played a really powerful set, tearing down the place. The crowd was in a constant mosh-pit and towards the end of the show, there was almost constant crowd surfing. They poured their heart and soul into it, Rob Watson, their singer, thanking the crowd more than once for twelve awesome years. He even jumped into the crowd himself, surfing along. You could really see that they played to have fun and everyone could feel that. The band announced that they will call it quits after over a decade of recording and touring. [Read More]

Concert Review Free & Easy Festival – July 31st, 2016, Part 1: The Dead Daisies

August 16, 2016

Every summer one of my favorite venues in Munich, the Backstage, is hosting the Free & Easy festival. That’s 18 days of free shows on different stages inside and open-air. Last year they had bands like Combichrist, Hardcore Superstar and Armored Saint. This year also drew some awesome bands. I was able to get there on three nights, first one July 31st, where The Dead Daisies played a smaller stage, the Club and Lionheart had their last ever Munich show at the Halle. Stage times of both bands collided, so I chose to start off with The Dead Daisies and in between switch to Lionheart. I got to the venue way before the different clubs opened for the audience. Since the whole area is open for public, it’s much more crowded than on usual concert nights. So when I got there, people were already queuing for The Dead Daisies. Usually there’s opening bands, but The New Roses, that were at first set to play before TDD, switched to the midnight gig, so fans in there [Read More]

Concert Review: Ministry, Backstage Werk, Munich, 08/08/2016 by Alex Bock

August 11, 2016

Just one band was announced for that night and that was Ministry. A rare guest on our stages, therefore a lot of people were expected. About an hour before show start the venue was still really quiet. Oftentimes people come later for the shows, since there’s 98 out of 100 times opening bands and some just come for the headliners. But at around 8 pm the venue was packed and by 8.15 pm the photo pit was full and everyone was excited for Ministry. Behind the drums, which were set on a riser, was a big screen showing images throughout the whole show. One by one the band members entered the stage, when finally Al Jourgensen came, with a black mask for the first few minutes of ‘Hail’. That night they played 18 songs with two short breaks towards the end, marking the encores. One of them was a cover song called ‘Gates Of Steel’ from the band Devo. Al said they were tired of playing Ministry songs, so they chose this one and he [Read More]
