Time to rock out to The Jaded

April 29, 2013

The Jaded It has been quite some time that I can say that my old stomping grounds, San Francisco has produced a great rock and roll band. Don’t get me wrong, a lot of great things have come from San Francisco.  Sourdough soup bowl from Boudin’s.  Seafood at the Wharf.  The Stinking Rose. Fun nights at Candlestick. but a great rock band…. not in a while… until now. We had the pleasure of seeing San Francisco rock band, The Jaded up here at the Last Day Saloon in Santa Rosa. These guys just bring old school rock and roll and wrap in everything from funk to old school sound, that just has you wanting more and more.  The Jaded is Jimmy Steal aka Sergio on vocals/rhythm guitar, Matt Notter on bass, Downey Orrick on lead guitar/backing vocals and Elliot Starno on drums and percussion.  These four come together to send you into rock and roll bliss with their sound. We had the chance to catch up with The Jaded at their recent show at the [Read More]

Hard Rockers “Heaven Below” continue their rise

April 28, 2013

All my friends here in California already know about this great hard working rock band, Heaven Below but now it is time for EVERYONE to know about them. My son Ryan had met their lead singer and guitarist, Patrick Kennison at NAMM 2012 and we  had their music blasting on our 7 hour drive home.  They have such an intense energy throughout their songs as they deliver “in your face rock” which we all need more of now and days. Heaven Below rose from Los Angeles and has not stopped since. We had the chance to see them earlier this year at House of Blues Anaheim during NAMM 2013 and the place was packed. They always bring such a great crowd and if you ever see them coming to a town near you; Fly, Drive, Walk or Crawl to get to that show. You will be infused with high octane levels of rock and roll and will now be part of the Heaven Below family.   You can get to know more about Heaven Below [Read More]

Chrissy Amphlett of Divinyls dies at young age of 53

April 22, 2013

Chrissy Amphlett Rest in Peace October 25, 1959 to April 21, 2013 Today I got the shocking news that we lost Chrissy Amphlett of the Australian rock band Divinyls to her battle of breast cancer. Chrissy was truly one of the most influential musicians for me when I was growing up from a rebellious teenager into an independent woman. Many people know of the Divinyls from their huge international hit, “I Touch Myself” in the’90s but long before I was already in love with many of their great songs like “Good Die Young”, “Pleasure and Pain”, and ‘Boys in Town”. I am going to have see if I can find my old cassettes, I swear I must have worn them out. Chrissy had such a great voice and her exuberant personality had everyone falling in love with her and their music. I can remember when I used to play my Divinyls cassettes and it wasn’t until I played their hit single, “‘I Touch Myself” that my parents literally told me they didn’t like me playing [Read More]

Killed the Fixtion brings back the truth to Heavy Metal!

April 19, 2013

Sometimes I miss the simpler times when I think of music, but then again you have to appreciate what this digital era has done for us in finding new bands or new music.  Before, long, long ago there was a time when the only way I found out about new bands was either from listening to friend’s mix tapes or we would head out to the record store. Maybe Rainbow Records, Tower or Wherehouse – the usual teenage hangout. We would scour the aisles of records and even get to listen to new bands.  Well, fast forward thirty years and the next band I am going to share with you came from a little birdy, a little blue birdy….. Twitter!! It is great to find new bands.  The band I wanted to share with you is a heavy metal/rock band, “Killed the Fixtion“. These four guys come from Hillside and Newark, New Jersey. Together they have shared their love for all types of music from punk rock to heavy metal and everything in between. The [Read More]

Check out The Wearies from San Francisco!

April 18, 2013

I have to tell you about this great new band from San Francisco, The Wearies. They remind me of a modern day improved version of the Byrds fronted by Elvis Costello.  You have the feel good energy flowing and you just can’t sit back and listen; you have to MOVE! You can definitely call them a fun rock band with just the right amount of pop blended in for good measure. Truly a musical fusion you are going to enjoy similar to another one of my all time favorites, Joe Jackson. The Wearies has Erik Mullins on vocals and guitar, Robbie Martinez on lead guitar, Kevin Michael on Bass and Adam Monroe on drums.  I really hope to catch this band soon since I am already singing along to their songs that I listen to on their website.  You will love America Miss, where they truly shine with their edgy pop/new wave sound.  Here is a video fro that song: If you are lucky enough to live near San Francisco, you can catch them at their [Read More]
