Rooftop Revolutionaries launch Rolling Rebellion in LA with Eleanor Goldfield’s soaring, voice and in your face progressive lyrics.

July 15, 2014

By: Patrick O’Heffernan, Host Music FridayLive! Rolling Rebellion for Real Democracy, the national movement rolling into cities across the country during the first two weeks of July in an effort to loosen the corporate stranglehold over America’s democracy,  moved into the At Play At DTLA space in the LA Arts District Friday night. The event was a fundraiser for Occupy Venice and it featured  a lineup of  poets, activist  speakers and the comedian Lee Camp.  But for me, the highlight of the event was the LA-based  progressive hard rock band Rooftop Revolutionaries.   Eleanor Goldfield, co-founder and lead singer, showed her stunning vocal range, moving from soaring soprano notes to gritty blues belts and then down into deep bass – almost Tibetan throat singing – in a high energy, 7-song set that electrified the room.  The musicians-  Brian Marshak on guitar, Stanley Love on drums, Mikael “Redbeard” Gustavsson on bass and Colin Reid on guitar, moved like a single organism,  scaffolding Eleanor’s singing and putting forceful beats to the political message she was pumping out. The band opened [Read More]

Sad news to report… Drummer/Producer Tommy Ramone has passed away

July 11, 2014

Very sad news to report that Tommy Ramone, the last original member of the Ramones has passed away. It was reported that he had been in hospice in New York City following treatment for bile duct cancer.  On the Ramones Facebook Page is the following post:   We are saddened to announce the passing of Tommy Ramone (nee Erdelyi), the original drummer for the Ramones, earlier today, 11 July 2014.  “It wasn’t just music in The Ramones: it was an idea. It was bringing back a whole feel that was missing in rock music – it was a whole push outwards to say something new and different. Originally it was just an artistic type of thing; finally I felt it was something that was good enough for everybody.” – Tommy Ramone, 1978 RIP Tommy.   Our condolences go out to his family and friends. The Ramones were such an influential band for so many bands out today. If it wasn’t  for their unique style, raw edge, creativity overload and being a band, who promoted always being [Read More]

Check out the new song Grey by PushFire

July 11, 2014

PushFire, a five piece rock band from Clifton Springs, New York has been busy working on their new music. PushFire recently changed their name from Beneath The Words. After lineup changes and a disconnection to the former name, it was time for them to move forward and choose a name each member could be proud to say they were a part of. Hence, the new name, PushFire which brings a fresh new life for this band. They have recently released their new song, Grey which takes you on a musical journey intertwining an ethereal style intro that seamlessly blends to a heavier rock track. It is definitely a well crafted song that highlights the versatility of the band. Check out the song here:   When asked about the song, PushFire explains, “‘Grey‘ is loosely based through the eyes of Kenny Waters, a Massachusetts man wrongly convicted of a murder in the early 1980’s. We always like our songs to have some sort of story behind them . ‘Grey‘ is also one of our favorite songs to play [Read More]

Dree Paterson breaks through with A Louder Side of Me EP By Patrick O’Heffernan

July 11, 2014

By Patrick O’Heffernan, Host Music FridayLive! Breaking through the clutter in the LA music market is very difficult for a young artist.  You build a following through small clubs, singing covers while you write your own songs and collect the confidence, the capital and the inventory to produce a first EP or album.  And when you do, it had better be more than  good – because everyone here  is good – it must be outstanding and uniquely yours. Dree Paterson has done that.  Her debut EP,  A Louder Side of Me is a breakthrough work that demonstrates her poised flexibility across multiple genres while solidly establishing a unique, unmistakable voice that resonates in all of them. Each of the five songs on A Louder Side of Me is carefully crafted so that it stands alone while remaining connected to the others through her voice and inflection .  The result is a whole greater than the sum of the parts, a far-ranging musical narrative that could very be the  best debut EP of the year. When I heard [Read More]

The Hollywood Kills set to release video for I Don’t Walk Straight on July 18th

July 11, 2014

We are just a week away from the release of the music video by The Hollywood Kills for their bad ass track, I Don’t Walk Straight. The straight up rockin track is off of their MUST HAVE EP, Coming of Age which was released earlier this year. You can read our review of their EP here.  As I mentioned before, “The Hollywood Kills new EP, “Coming of Age” should be marketed as the instant mood elevator! Who needs antidepressants when you have an EP filled with 5 songs that will get you out of any funk you could ever be in.  I love music that makes you feel so alive and takes you to even a new found level of euphoric bliss.” The Hollywood Kills may be from Nashville, TN but they mean business with their rock n roll sound sprinkled with punk, pop and even Motown. The video which I had the chance to check out is awesome and really captures the fun nature of this band. The track I Don’t Walk Straight is [Read More]
