Concert Review of Hardcore Superstar, Avatar & Q-Box in Munich by Alexandra Bock

July 23, 2015

Munich, Backstage Werk, July 22nd, 2015 It was one of the opening events of the annual ‘Free & Easy’ festival at the Backstage in Munich. It’s three clubs and an open air stage with bands from different musical backgrounds performing for free. 18 days party starting daily at 5pm. The atmosphere is awesome there. There’s a constant coming and going, ‘cause you can move around the areal and watch a bit of every band or just stick to one show. There’s different bars outside and places to sit or just hang out and talk. The weather god was with us and after a short shower it stayed dry, so from time to time you could leave the venue for some fresh air and a little talk. There’s many awesome bands taking part in that event. Best check the schedule out at http://www.backstage.eu/f-e So yesterday evening I decided to stick with one show. The evening started with a band called ‘Q-Box’. Based in Pentenried, which is a small town close to Munich, they can be considered [Read More]

OWL breaks the rules – as always – blowing away the Whiskey A Go Go. By Patrick O’Heffernan

July 23, 2015

Chris Wyse, founder, vocals and bassist lead of the LA-based hard rock band, OWL, responded to people who told his child self that he couldn’t play a bass that way with the rejoinder,  “Rock music is not supposed to have rules. That’s the whole point… I don’t want to fit into anyone’s idea. I want to show you new ones.”  Chris and his bandmates, guitarist Jason Achilles Mezilis and drummer Dan Dinsmore, have been showing the rock world new ideas, new ways of playing and new rock concepts for almost a decade. And those new ideas were on full display for an adoring crowd Tuesday night at Hollywood’s storied Whiskey A Go Go.   A three quarter full house was well-warmed up by pounding beats and screaming guitar licks of the journeyman band Chemical Burn when OWL began to set up.  By the time Chris Wyse turned his flashing grin on the crowd and hit his the first chord, the room was jam-packed full – a sea of upturned faces of all genders and [Read More]

5 Seconds of Summer and Hey Violet ROCK the Shoreline

July 23, 2015

The 5 Seconds of Summer “Rock Out With Your Socks Out Tour” made its stop in Mountain View tonight for the final California date before heading across country. The tour also features Hey Violet as they started the night with their high energy and contagious enthusiasm. It has been amazing for us to watch this band grow over the years and tonight their sound was bigger than ever. They sounded amazing as they treated the audience to songs off their recent EP, I Can Feel It as well as a stellar cover of Taylor Swift’s Blank Space. Rena killed it on bass while delivering powerful vocals that were fueled with energy. Miranda does an extraordinary job on rhythm guitar, backing vocals and keyboards. She has such a bubbly personality and invites the audience to join in the fun. Casey is a madman on the guitar as he rocks all over the stage. He would be greeted with screams from the girls as his image would pass across the big screen. Nia is one of [Read More]

Solo Artist Glenn Symmonds premieres new video for Santa Fe

July 22, 2015

“Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.”  That quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson has always been a favorite of mine. Solo artist Glenn Symmonds seems to be the perfect example of the quote as he has been making his own path with his music after a lineup change in the Eddie Money Band.  Glenn has not only been an exceptional drummer but he is quite a talented singer, songwriter, and all around musician and has an extensive catalog of his solo work. Glenn recently released a music video for his song, Santa Fe which he explains more about the song, The song was written about a family vacation riding the rails… I’m the son of a hobo after all. The video was shot on location in and around Bloomington, Illinois and specifically at the astounding Vrooman Mansion. The entire experience was absolutely amazing and far beyond my expectations! Thank you to the cast & crew for the time, effort, dedication, hospitality & laughter… [Read More]
