Our Aftershock Spotlight Band is The Pink Slips

August 27, 2015

We are excited to announce The Pink Slips as our Aftershock Spotlight Band today. Today our music scene contains a never ending list of genres or subgenres but what we really are missing is a rekindling of our love for punk rock and synth. Imagine a young band that brings to life your love of 90’s synth pop music and wraps it deliciously in young spirited punk rock. No need to dream about it, because Pink Slips is the answer to your wishes. The LA based punk rock band, Pink Slips is fronted by 18 year old Grace McKagan. Yes, the name might sound familiar, she is the daughter of Duff McKagan (GUNS N’ ROSES/VELVET REVOLVER/WALKING PAPERS). Today is Grace McKagan’s Birthday so make sure to head on over and wish her a very Happy Birthday and get ready for them at this year’s Aftershock Festival. They have released their infectiously catchy 6 song EP, Say L’or Venus which is available on iTunes here.  Grace’s vocals remind me of a blend of Debbie Harry, Kim Wilde [Read More]

Our Aftershock Spotlight Band is September Mourning

August 26, 2015

We are very excited to announce September Mourning as our next band to be featured in our Aftershock Spotlight.  September Mourning have been capturing the attention of many as they bring a much needed dose of cinematic hard rock with an alternative dark edge. Their music is infectious and driving and had us hooked from the first listen. September Mourning has been perfectly described as ” Marilyn Manson and Lady Gaga had a kid, it would be September Mourning”. September is quite a passionate character as you will see by her character unfolding in their music. Their single Children of Fate is a stellar track with vocals that are passionate and soaring as September takes you through melodic bliss. The song has a powerful message as well, vocalist September explains, “Children of Fate is a call to arms for every person who has felt helpless, hopeless or worthless…a battle cry against the negativity we are surrounded by everyday. It is a song about the strength of knowing it’s not just you, alone, verses the world, it [Read More]

Elsten Torres’ Éxitos Acústicos: songs we know but love even  more when he sings them. By Patrick O’Heffernan

August 25, 2015

(Los Angeles) American Latin Music (ALM) is the fusion sound created over the past two decades mostly in California by Latinos who were raised in the US as children, spoke Spanish at home and listened to cumbia, and ranchero and other music from Central and South America but spoke English at school and listened to rock/ rap/blues/pop and are now mixing them all up in a new genre.   But another kind of ALM evolved in New York and Miami, one that added the distinct music of Cuba to the mix.  A pioneer of that revolution is Elsten Fulano Torres, who was brought to New York at the age of 2, surrounded by Cuban music at home but followed Elvis and rock in high school. Fortunately,  he later absorbed the music of his native Cuba in his twenties and set out on a career to make a new contemporary music mix.  That career now includes six albums, two Grammy nominations, a #1 song on Billboard and songwriting credits with Ricky Martin and Oscar D’Leon and [Read More]
