La Santa Cecelia’s Buenaventura: confidence, message, and sheer joy.

April 6, 2016

I have been listening to the new album, Buena Ventura, by the Latin Grammy winning band La Santa Cecelia’s since it was first sent to me a month ago.  LSC is a hometown LA band and I wanted to hear them do the songs live before writing about them.  LSC is more than a band, it is a community and an inspiration and a performance delight;  seeing them live gives wider context to the recording.   I saw LSC live last week at the 2200-seat Walt Disney Hall in concert. That performance confirmed everything I heard in the recording;  La Marisoul (aka Marisol Hernandez) and the entire band have matured and notched up the talent level while holding tight to the core joy and energy that brought them from street busking 8 years ago to debuting at #1 on iTunes Latin albums last month.   Each of the ten songs on the bilingual album is crafted with precision gained not only from hard work in the studio but from the experience of touring [Read More]

Country Legend Merle Haggard dies on his 79th Birthday

April 6, 2016

Sad news to report as country music legend, Merle Haggard has passed away on his 79th birthday. Merle had been recovering from a double pneumonia that hit him in December 2015. He was set to reschedule his December tour dates and had lost a lot of weight with the pneumonia. He had been looking forward to regaining his strength and hitting the road again. He is in our hearts and we send our condolences to his family and friends. His son Ben who was in the band, had handled all the social media sites and it was great to see the other side of the once private, gruff, reserved man. He would share such great photos. Like the one below where a fan was praying for Merle’s strength: Told dad there was a guy praying behind the bus, he looked down and weeped.. Moved by the love from the fans! pic.twitter.com/0yS4VA4iF4 — Ben Haggard (@BenHaggardMusic) February 3, 2016 Merle would update us on his health as well, like the following post on Facebook: Thank you [Read More]

We had the opportunity to talk with vocalists Taylor Perkins and are pleased to bring that interview to you here: * * * * * * *  Music Junkie Press: Thank you so much for your time. We were blown away with your recent performance in Santa Barbara opening for The Struts. Was this first time for you guys to be playing out in California? Taylor: It was! We have spent a lot of time in California making records and writing but never actually playing! We usually spend our time in LA, or Malibu, so it was great to see some of the surrounding cities as well.   Music Junkie Press:  It is refreshing to see such energy from a band on stage and how [Read More]

Munich, Kranhalle (Feierwerk),  March 29th, 2016   Funeral For A Friend are currently on a farewell tour through different countries. They say goodbye to their audience after 15 years. With them on this tour are ZOAX, a relatively new band from the UK and Shai Hulud, a US based band that is in the business for about 20 years now. There’s always two shows in a row with playthroughs of the band’s first two records ‘Casually Dressed & Deep In Conversation’ and `Hours’.   Opening band was ZOAX. They’re from the UK and formed in 2013. It was their third time playing in Germany, so far always as an opening band. We were lucky to catch Adam Carroll (vocals) and Doug Wotherspoon (guitar) for an interview that you can check out here: It was my second time to see them play, first was with Nothing More in November 2015.
