CONCERT REVIEW: Long Live ‘Monks Of Doom’ @ LA’s Café NELA

May 21, 2018

Written by Jessica Klausing Monks of Doom are back on tour. Yes, you read this correctly. The surrealist progressive rockers are back in support of their newest album, The Bronte Pin. This album is the first of new material released in 25 years. The long wait, though highly frustrating, was indeed worth it. Victor Krummenacher (vocals, bass, and guitar), David Immerglück (vocals, guitar, bass, and mandolin), Greg Lisher (guitar), and Chris Pederson (drums, percussion) pulled listeners into a post-rock world of cryptic hysteria and psychedelic instrumentals at LA’s Café NELA. From the psychedelia opening chimes of “Cherry Blossom Baptism,” off the 1991 album, Meridian, this was a strong performance with Lisher as the driving force, well supported in rhythm by Pederson on the back beat. Krummenacher and  Immerglück kept the crowd totally encapsulated and mesmerized with their intricate guitar magic. If there was ever any doubt, this powerful opener just proved that the Monks are still in fine eccentric musical form. The backdrop acted as a screen for colorful patterns that worked with the simple [Read More]

May 18, 2018

It is here! The new album Electric Light from James Bay is out now and it is a MUST-HAVE! We have already been spoiled with the first couple singles, Pink Lemonade and Us. We also got to enjoy James perform several of his new songs this past weekend at the ALT 105.3 BFD Festival on Sunday. The crowd went wild for his new songs and had everyone in anticipation of the release. Check out photos by our Rockin Ryan:   Well, the album is out and it definitely was worth the wait.  The album kicks off with an Intro that takes you into the infectious guitar riffs of Wasted On Each Other. The song has a sultry funk vibe that grabs a hold of you and won’t let you go. The fun summer track Pink Lemonade had us hooked from the first time we heard it. The song carries a true nostalgic vibe and reminds me of long summer drives with the top down as my free spirit travels the long road. James’ vocals bleed with [Read More]

INTERVIEW: The Falling Doves’ Chris Leyva Shares His Love For Rock n’ Roll by Jessica Klausing

May 17, 2018

The Falling Doves never play it safe. Chris Leyva (guitars, vocals) and Mike Dorsey (lead guitarist) create an unpredictable mix of garage rock with jazz, metal, Latin, and pop infusions. Known for their deep lyrical confessionals and aggressive playing, this band is not afraid to combine the classics with the new. No Falling Doves show is ever the same either. Leyva and Dorsey bring onstage professional musicians from all musical genres.  In their latest album, Doves of War, they have revived the classic rock spirit with today’s modern pop.  Currently, The Falling Doves are on a world tour with plans to release a new single later in the year. We got to chat with Chris Leyva about his musical influences, international touring, and the new upcoming Falling Doves album. Which musical element pulls you into a song? (Lyrics, Melody, or Composition?) Chris: That’s a really hard question…I’m going to be cheap right off the bat and say melody (laughs). With composition, for me, melody has to be key. If the melody is not there then [Read More]

Alternative pop artist Violet Days is proud to debut the official music video for her newest single, “Just A Little”. She comments about the new song, “This song is about being scared when something is too good for you, and you feel like you constantly have to mess it up just a little to actually feel great, explains Lina. “The music video gives you a more personal glimpse into the relationship of the characters of the EP, showing you the balance between the good and the bad.” Check out the new video: The song is off her upcoming  EP Made In My Head which will be released this summer. ‘The EP is inspired by a dreamy Swedish comic book from the 60’s that follows two characters who are in love and shows the ups and downs of their relationship.
