REVIEW: James Bay shines in the spotlight with his new album Electric Light

It is here! The new album Electric Light from James Bay is out now and it is a MUST-HAVE! We have already been spoiled with the first couple singles, Pink Lemonade and Us. We also got to enjoy James perform several of his new songs this past weekend at the ALT 105.3 BFD Festival on Sunday. The crowd went wild for his new songs and had everyone in anticipation of the release. Check out photos by our Rockin Ryan:

Well, the album is out and it definitely was worth the wait.  The album kicks off with an Intro that takes you into the infectious guitar riffs of Wasted On Each Other. The song has a sultry funk vibe that grabs a hold of you and won’t let you go.

The fun summer track Pink Lemonade had us hooked from the first time we heard it. The song carries a true nostalgic vibe and reminds me of long summer drives with the top down as my free spirit travels the long road. James’ vocals bleed with passion and then  feed your soul with sultry vibes in Wild Love.

Us is another favorite track that highlights a celestial gospel vibe. If you haven’t already seen it, make sure to check out the video:

In My Head features a spoken word intro that blends into an addictive fun street vibe followed by the Interlude. Another personal fave and a true crowd favorite this past Sunday is Just For Tonight. The album continues with Wanderlust as it features honest vocals that capture a sultry vulnerability. Next up is the gospel rich style and blues laden track of  I Found You.

Sugar Drunk High captures a nostalgic teenage anthem vibe, featuring infectious fuzz tones and a catchy beat. Stand Up grabs your attention with the distorted vocals calling for you to take action and be counted, a reminder to act in the moment before it is too late.

Fade Out takes me right back to the soulful tracks of the 70’s but with a modern twist. It takes me back to a time when you would sit by the radio with your fingers on Play/Record waiting for the perfect song to record that would say all the things you wanted to say, and add it to a mixtape.

The album comes to a close with Slide and feeds your soul with honest raw emotion that James carries in his voice, providing a sense of understanding and calm for times in this mixed up world. The album is a musical gem that highlights James’ versatility and evolution of his music.
