Truly the most iconic, influential guitarist, Eddie Van Halen passed away. His son Wolfgang Van Halen confirms his death with a heartbreaking post on Instagram:     View this post on Instagram   I can’t believe I’m having to write this, but my father, Edward Lodewijk Van Halen, has lost his long and arduous battle with cancer this morning. He was the best father I could ever ask for. Every moment I’ve shared with him on and off stage was a gift. My heart is broken and I don’t think I’ll ever fully recover from this loss. I love you so much, Pop. SPOTLIGHT BAND: Get to know Burning Pools and watch their new video!

October 5, 2020

Allow me to introduce you to Burning Pools, the band is led by former Smashing Pumpkins bassist Ginger Pooley. Together with her band they share a long list of studio and touring credits and collectively have worked with rock legends like Tom Morello, Siouxsie Sioux, Gwen Stefani, Morrissey, Liz Phair, Tegan and Sara, and bands like Jane’s Addiction and Weezer. They have just released a video for their song Bang, Bang.  You will instantly get hooked on their fuzzy rock vibe and have you in anticipation of their new EP. About the band She and husband Kristopher Pooley had been demoing songs showcasing Ginger’s penchant for empowering protest lyrics clothed in pop hooks, when they decided to reach out to guitarist Max Bernstein. He promptly added some tracks with a sub-octave fuzz permanently in the “on” position. Instantly, the three decided that Kris (a keyboard player by trade) would dust off his drum kit as this was not a synth operation —and a band was born.  They’ve also had their hands in the pop world, [Read More]

Best Pedals From NAMM 2020

October 5, 2020

Every year, the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) puts up the most awaited music gear and equipment promotion event in America. This year is no different. And it’s been an especially awesome year for effects pedal-hogging guitarists. So, let’s take a closer look at some of the best pedals NAMM featured at the start of 2020. Nobels ODR-1 VIDEO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jcwJ94ejw_c This beloved overdrive pedal needs no introduction. As Tonebox’s Nobels ODR-1 review notes, the pedal is already world-famous for its natural, tube amp-sounding overdrive and high dynamic sensitivity. As any session musician will tell you, there’s nothing better than a feature you didn’t know you needed until it was put there. It’s a useful improvement that [Read More]
