The Musicians Influenced By Bob Dylan

March 19, 2021

Arguably the most prolific artist in recent music history, Bob Dylan has bagged numerous music and writing awards. He’s a Grammy darling, with over 10 awards and a coveted spot in the Hall of Fame. He also earned a Golden Globe and Academy Award for his original song ‘Things Have Changed’ for the film, Wonder Boys, in 2000. Two of his most popular songs, ‘Like a Rolling Stone’ and ‘Rainy Day Women,’ rose to the number two spot on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1965 and 1966, respectively. However, the top spot on the Billboard charts seemed to have eluded him, until he turned 78 in 2020 that is. Beyond receiving numerous awards for his musical chops, Dylan is also the recipient of prestigious literary awards. As highlighted by Gala Bingo, Dylan’s Nobel Prize seemed like an more natural fit for him than the top spot on the hit charts. According to the award-giving body, Bob Dylan was able to create “new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition.” He’s also managed to add a Pulitzer to [Read More]

HOLDING ABSENCE RELEASE VIDEO FOR NEW SINGLE ‘IN CIRCLES’

March 19, 2021

Exactly one month before the release of “The Greatest Mistake Of My Life”, in a week that sees them grace the front cover of Kerrang! Magazine, Holding Absence have released a video for their brand new single, “In Circles”. Frontman Lucas Woodland comments: “‘In Circles’ is a really subtly exciting song for our band. Lyrically, it commentates on the mundane and cyclical nature of day to day life… Pointing out just how dangerous it can be to live your life without ambition. With such a strong lyrical vision, we made sure that the song and video followed suit, playing out in an almost hypnotic fashion. We think this track is really special, and will hopefully be enough to encourage people to reach out of their lives a little bit”. ‘The Greatest Mistake Of My Life’ can be pre-ordered here -> http://shrptn.co/incircles . In the band’s own words: “This album is about telling stories that are presented through the lens of hindsight, regret and looking back. There are songs that celebrate life when faced with death, and [Read More]

March 19, 2021

Today, Hail The Sun has shared “Made Your Mark”, the third single from their upcoming album “New Age Filth”, out April 16th on Rude Records and Equal Vision Records. The song shows a softer, yet familiar side of the band, floating through dreamy piano before kicking into the memorable chorus driven by guitars and an emotional vocal delivery. Speaking on the story behind the track, vocalist/drummer Donovan Melero puts it best stating:  “Lyrically, this song was written to outlive the relationship that it was written about. I wanted the words to hold true, no matter what the outcome, because of how strong of an emotion we felt towards each other. The chorus sums this up. ‘Wherever you end up, know that you’ve made your mark. I’m forever lost…forever caught by your moment on earth’”. Made Your Mark” follows previous singles “Domino” and “Parasitic Cleanse” giving a taste of the expansive and genre-bending sounds found across “New Age Filth”. Matt  Jaffe hits his stride with Undertoad – picking up where David Bowie left off

March 11, 2021

Matt Jaffe has hit his stride with  his latest album, Undertoad.  I have been following Jaffe since he was 14 and playing hugely good guitar at a house concert series in Northern California and have been waiting for this album since then.  At the age of 16 he was discovered by  Jerry Harrison of Talking Heads and together  they produced his first album.  Seven good albums later, Undertoad has positioned him for the very big time. With 7 sophisticated songs that transcend  the boundaries of rock and create an urgent universe of their own.   Undertoad opens with  “Broken Flowers” ,  a song that makes you sway, cry,  and think as its hypnotic guitar and his high-pitched but perfectly modulated voice carry you into a Leonard Cohen-like cinematic world, but with a rock beat.  Keeping up the energy in “Punch Drunk Love” Jaffe moves the pitch even higher, while staying smooth and addictive as he spins out a tale we all know. He stays in the deep emotional narrative mode with “Beacon in the [Read More]

The Juliana Theory share reimagined version of ‘Into The Dark’ today

March 8, 2021

Pulling from their seminal 2000 album, “Emotion is Dead”, The Juliana Theory today release an expansive and orchestral version of a song lead vocalist Brett Detar says has always showcased The Juliana Theory at its best. “Into the Dark” (Reimagined) is out now via your preferred listening service today. “‘Into the Dark’ is arguably my favorite song from the band’s catalog. I’m sure the song owes its DNA to all kinds of other artists and songs but for whatever reason the amalgamation of how all of those pieces came together felt to me like its own thing. It was the quintessential TJT song. If I had to play a person just one song from our catalog to represent what the band is – it’d be ‘Into The Dark’. I think it’s just a great middle ground of all the different sounds we explored. It’s a blend of hook-driven pop rock and bombastic guitar rock without being too much of either. It’s intimate yet anthemic at the same time. It has moody, personal subject matter in [Read More]
