3 Doors Down – Songs From the Basement Tour Review by Meryl DeWitt

The summer has been filled with intense guitar solos and hard head banging music, but sometimes it’s nice to sit back and relax to a soft rock show. 3 Doors Down proved with their acoustic tour, Songs From the Basement, that rock ‘n’ roll doesn’t always have to be pyrotechnics and tight leather pants.

As lead singer Brad Arnold jokes, this is pretty much band practice. His statement couldn’t be more true, because just like band practice, the guys laughs and have a good time, as well as include the audience in their shenanigans. It’s a very upbeat environment that gives the fans a much stronger connection to the good ol’ southern boys from Mississippi.

However, during a set that consists of tracks from all across 3 Doors Down’s many albums, the powerful performances of songs like Landing In London and Here Without You will really pull tears to the corner of your eyes. You’ll get a chance to hear many tracks off of the recently released Greatest Hits, as well as songs off of albums like The Better Life, Away From the Sun, and Seventeen Days. The utter passion these guys put into their songs let alone is enough to go buy a ticket!

In addition, they’ve chosen breathtaking, once in a lifetime types of venues. Some included building a stage from scratch to perform at Minnesota’s State Zoo, or rocking out at Iowa’s new Paramount theater in Cedar Rapids that has just recently recovered from a flood. The Paramount venue was devastated by over ten feet of water, but it has made a remarkable recovery thanks to the good people of Iowa. As Arnold put it on stage, you know you’re around good people when all you see on the drive is corn fields.

Can’t agree more, as many more reasons to pick up a ticket include an incredible moment of the show when the entire audience is on their feet singing the band’s number one hit, Kryptonite. Not to mention the solid ten minutes of chanting for an encore. Seeing so many people coming together like this is a huge reminder why we all do this; for the love of rock ‘n’ roll!

The set list also includes three new songs that have not yet been released anywhere else. One title is mentioned, Pieces of Me, which is a very relatable song about cutting away the negative parts of ourselves. Though the other two song titles are not spoken during the show, I can promise they are just as amazing and do not stray away from 3 Doors Down’s distinct style.

Concert goers will also have the opportunity to see many firsts from the band. This includes a cover of Garth Brook’s classic, The Dance, as well as a cover of Nothing Else Matters by Metallica. As well, this is one of the first tours featuring the newest addition to the band, bassist Justin Biltonen. Throughout the set, band mates tease Biltonen about being the baby, and at 29, he does seem a little young next to a band of married men with children. Nonetheless, he is a fantastic addition to 3 Doors Down family.

If you’d like to see a show full of smiles, laughs, and good vibes, I highly suggest catching the Songs From the Basement Tour in a city near you. You won’t regret it!
