Fault Line from Upland, California is delivering their new brand of music, “Modern Classic” Rock that they describe as loud/rude aggressive blus/rock n roll. What I call it is a perfect match. These guys hit the stage and they are there to ROCK YOU! I had the opportunity to catch them earlier this year as they performed at the historic Whisky in Hollywood, CA and they were awesome.
Most recently Fault Line released their new CD/Album “Cloud 9” and after listening, it will have you on your own rockin Cloud 9. This album truly delivers some old school rock with a modern flair. They highlight each of the member’s talent on all songs. Sometimes you find an album that has some Kick ass Drums, or some amazing guitar work or vocals and you seem to forget the rest. Not this album, each member has their glory moment on songs and it will have you appreciating all their talent.
Fault Line is Brian Karrick on lead vocals, Jeff Mordhorst on Bass, Jeremy Schoen on Lead Guitar and Brett Cramer on drums.
Here is a review of several of the songs off this great album:
“Tears on Vine Street” starts in with a nice bass intro lead by Jeff Mordhorst that definitely steals the show in this song. You have some great drumming and guitar that builds up into vocals that just ROCK! At first listen, I couldn’t place those great vocals as Brian Karrick has such a depth to his vocals. Then I got, it he reminded me of early and young Mark Knopfler. It has me really looking forward to this whole album and what more they have in store.
Great songs continue on and “Don’t Want to Know” begins with a sweet intro with flair and attitude. Brian on vocals comes out clean and crisp, he really has his own style that will get people listening. I love the guitars on this one with it’s catchy power chords and smoking riffs. This song brings a nice bluesy style to it.
Another great one, “Florida Snow” starts right off with a high energy intro and great slide blues style guitar. Great dramatic pause and build ups and Brett Cramer on drums gives you some Steven Adler “old school rock n roll” style drumming. Nice work.
“Rise and Fall” starts off with another nice bass intro as delivers some bass lines as the guitar comes in and invites you to rock! This song has a nice grunge feel where the vocalist almost has an early Layne Staley feel mixed with a bit of Lemmy in him. It has a really catchy chorus and some blistering guitars by Jeremy Schoen. He just lets loose on this song.
“Value of Nothing” has a heavy Guns N Roses sound. I love this song. It actually sounds like what ORIGINAL Guns n Roses might sound like today. This song really takes them to a new level. Vocals are spot on and you can just feel the energy of the drums as it really highlights the song but you can’t take away from the clean guitar and bass that come in later and sweeps you into the lighter in the air guitar solo. They all come together to deliver a perfect harmony and a ROCKIN song!
“Ace Up My Sleave” is the last song to this great album and has a great bass/guitar intro build up that just has you ready to ROCK! Vocals and the backing vocals are spot and have some great attitude. You will love this song as it is a true ROCK n Roll song with great riffs, killer guitar solo, mean bass lines and precision drums. At the end of the song, you find drummer Brett Cramer channeling his inner John Bonham and kills it! All of the songs on this CD are great but this one just stands out and demands to be heard!
So make sure to head over to Itunes and get yourself this gem! It will have you rockin on Cloud 9 as soon as you take a listen. Also make sure to check out our interview with bassist, Jeff Mordhorst of Fault Line:
