First news of the day is that FILTER has cancelled their upcoming San Francisco show set for tomorrow night, October 6th at Regency Ballroom. This was one stop on their Self Inflicted Tour with RED, Otherwise, and We As Human. We were looking forward to covering this show since it was filled with our favorite bands that we got to see at Aftershock Festival. We As Human and Otherwise really stole the show at the Sacramento festival.
I heard the cancellation via a local radio station’s status but I couldn’t find it anywhere else. Then through my searching, I came across even more news. On September 30th Phil Buckman, bassists announced his departure from FILTER. I completely missed this news and have not seen anything else about it. Today I did see a tweet from FILTER Official that mentions it. Here are the two posts.
So there you go. I wish Phil all the best in his future endeavors. He is one talented musician and incredible bassist. You can catch Phil performing at the ROCK AGAINST MS event on October 17th at the Whisky a Go Go. He will be playing with an amazing group of musicians like Steve Lukather, Gilby Clark, Brian Tichy, Jimmy D’Anda, Robert Sarzo and the list keeps going on. You can get more details here.
As well, I wish all the best to FILTER and hope they can reschedule their San Francisco show so can see them. Guitarist Jonny Radtke mentioned on Twitter that they are going to try and reschedule the San Francisco show to November 15th. I don’t have any news for the upcoming tour dates but you can check the dates on their website and make sure to catch them when they come to your town.

I am at a loss with this story! When one commits to a project (regardless of what it is) and then bails out, just shreds away at one’s character, with the exception of legitimate medical reasons for leaving (of course). Phil couldn’t have given Filter a timeline? How can he be trusted by any other band now? This same sentiment I have goes to all musicians that do this, both past and present. Richard Patrick and band have shown 100% class in their response. Not cool, Phil.
On a positive note, I very much dig the Army Of Anyone (supergroup project) and WISH those guys will do another album again someday!! 🙂 m/m/
I know what you mean Stone. This tour had been in the works for a while and it really surprised a lot of people when the lineup changed. They should have hashed it out before hitting the road!
Right on! I believe this will be a classic example of “the grass IS NOT always greener on the other side” for Phil. I mean… FILTER is not a start-up band for Metal sakes!! I’m certain there is a LONG list of musicians dying to play for a legendary band such as FILTER! m/m/

Know your facts, before you make accusations. The band knew I was leaving WEEKS before it happened. AND, I was supposed to do the tour. They asked me to, I made arrangements to make it happen, they pulled some really shady stuff, so I went back to leaving when I had initially told them I would. There was already a replacement, ready to go. They did NOT cancel the SF show because I left. They cancelled for other reasons. You’ll have to ask THEM why.
For what it’s worth, during that tour, the guitar tech, and the tour manager both quit, so that should tell you SOMETHING.
Phil,I am glad you cleared that up. I really appreciate you taking the time out to point out the facts!!
We have been given so much misinformation and till today they have never rescheduled the concert. The rescheduled date of November 15th came and went and FILTER never even said what they were going to do. We had fans who showed up at The Regency with their tickets and there was another concert playing that night.
Please keep us updated on what you are working in so we can do a write up and let everyone know.
Thanks again, MJP
As far as I know, they never actually planned on a makeup show.
I left the band to concentrate on my voiceover career, and that is going amazingly well, knock on wood. Metal Odyssey’s comment of “the grass is not always greener” is true. But, in my case, I went from a dirt field, to ACRES of Kentucky Blue. 😉
