Empires have announced their major label debut Orphan, out September 23rd on Chop Shop/Island Records. Produced by John Congleton (St. Vincent, The Black Angels, Explosions in the Sky), Orphan is a collection of songs immersed in classic post punk and indie rock n’ roll circa 1989-1991, exploring the sonic adventures and emotional heft of artists such as Roxy Music, Wire, and Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. Check out their track, Please Don’t Tell My Lover here:   From the first time I listened to Empires, I was taken back to the nightlife of the ’90s as I would go club hopping and enjoy grunge, alternative, and mod.  It was a time for you to feel the music and literally have it take over you. Empires are an Indie Alternative band from Chicago that do just that. You can’t help but listen to them and be “in the moment”. Fantastic songwriting, blended with [Read More]

Gurrumul will open your heart with his soul touching ethereal vocals, truly magical

August 4, 2014

Music touches us emotionally, where words alone can’t – Johnny Depp Music is the wine that fills the cup of silence – Robert Fripp Music is an outburst of the soul – Frederick Delius Music is a second language to my heart – Mara Arps Those are some of my favorite quotes about music and how it truly can be a soul touching experience. I must tell you about a man whose vocals have touched me like none other. The man is Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu who goes by the name Gurrumul. First, he has a fascinating story which was featured in Rolling Stone that tells how this blind Aborignial man from Australia has captured the hearts of many with his powerfully emotive voice. He truly can open your heart and touch your soul as he sings. Gurrumul has recently released his self titled album last month through Skinnyfish Music. The album takes you on a journey through your emotions, capturing the essence of an ethereal presence and is powerful that it can move you to tears. It is [Read More]

Today they have released their first music video for their song Track 1R. Check it out here:   Directed by former Norma Jean / Underoath drummer Daniel Davison, the video takes a new approach to the standard warehouse vision in a way only Josh Scogin and ’68 knows how. “Shooting this video with my long time friend and former band mate Daniel was a blast,” says Scogin. “He is one of the few artists that I feel comfortable with in just trusting his ability to make something great.  He told me the idea and we just ran with it and it turned out golden.” The band just wrapped up a notable run with Listener in the states and are embarking on a batch of dates in Europe with InArchives capped by two shows in Russia with Touche Amore.
