With NAMM being almost a week away, I need to tell you about another band that will be playing at the Whiskey during NAMM week. Haunted by Heroes are known as the World’s Youngest Rock Band and these kids will be rocking the Whiskey on January 25th opening for Uli Jon Roth (Scorpions) & Warren DeMartini (RATT). What an incredible talent these boys have and they haven’t even hit their teen years yet!
I actually saw them play last year at NAMM and was blown away by their energy at their young ages. If you closed your eyes when you listened to them, you would have never imagined that the great rock and roll was coming from a group of 12 year olds! At the time, I didn’t know where they were from but I did hear a lot of buzz about these kids. I was even more surprised to find out they were also from the Bay Area. I loved growing up in San Mateo and it is awesome to have these kids be from Pacifica. I had thought that they must have been some LA rockers’ kids and they were just out there following in their parents’ footsteps. No, these kids definitely don’t walk in any shadows, they are all leading the way into Rock and Roll!
Haunted by Heroes is Nick on Bass and Lead vocals, Chris on Drums, Charley on Rhythm guitar and Max on Lead guitar. Together they are dishing up old school rock and I know you are going to enjoy them. These kids even performed on America’s Got Talent and Dee Snider joined them onstage. Take a look at that video:
Well, Haunted by Heroes are heading back to NAMM next week but this time they have their first stop in Brisbane, CA for their CD Release Party at the 23 Club. Make sure to check them out for now, we bring you an interview with Haunted by Heroes.

Music Junkie Press: Thank you very much for taking the time to talk with us at Music Junkie Press. How old were you all when you first got into music? Also, what is the ages of all of you now.
Nick : My twin brother Chris and I went to day care and met Charley. His mom runs a day care center. We were three years old. We banged on boxes to begin with, then got into music games. We got bored with that and by the time we were 7 years old we had real instruments. We played our first gig at 8 yrs old. We are now 12.
Max: I started playing at at nine years old. I joined the band last year.
Music Junkie Press: Rig Rundown, Can you tell us about your favorite gear you like to play on stage?
Chris: I play Ludwig drums. I like Ludwig and DW . I use Zildjian cymbals . Remo heads
Nick : I play a Fender Jazz bass. I like Precisions too. For amps I use Mesa’s, Strings are D’Addario. We all use D’Addario strings .
Charley : I play Gibson Les Paul’s. I’ve got a black studio as a back-up and use a Deluxe as my live show and recording guitar. It’s sweet! For amps I use a Marshall 100 watt, beefed up.
Max : I play Les Paul’s and use modified Marshalls.
Music Junkie Press: What are your plans for 2013? I know we will be seeing you at NAMM and can’t wait to share the info on where you will be playing during NAMM!
Nick : We will be playing the Whisky in Hollywood Friday night during NAMM with Uli Roth from Scorpions and Warren DeMartini from Ratt. It’s our CD release party. Well go on around 7:00 PM . We play early and invite a bunch of kids. The next day we’ll be walking around NAMM.
Chris : Going to NAMM is fun because you get to hang out with people from a bunch of cool bands.
Music Junkie Press: We understand you are working on your new CD, can you tell me about it, release date, who worked with you on it (producer, etc)?
Charley : We recorded it at RadioStar Studios. It comes out in a couple of weeks. It was produced by Sylvia Massy and Brent Turner. Sylvia has produced Tool and Johnny Cash. She is really fun to work with.
Max : RadioStar is a big theater building in Weed, CA where Sylvia put a recording studio. We recorded on the same board Led Zeppelin used for ‘Song Remains The Same’. Totally cool.
Music Junkie Press: If you guys could put together your dream concert, what three other bands or artists, would you put on the bill with you?
Charley : It would be different for each band member. Mine would include Slipknot and Exodus and probably Savatage or Quicksand.
Max : Mine would be Ozzy -Van Halen – and either AC/ DC or Jimi Hendrix
Nick: I would say AC/DC and The Who .. and The Beatles.
Chris: Definitely Tool.. and maybe Rush .. and The Four Horsemen ..
Music Junkie Press: Do you have any favorite albums growing up that really influenced you to pursue your dream in music?
Nick: I grew up listening to The Beatles and The Who and Black Sabbath. Chris and I heard the same stuff. We played Black Sabbath cover tunes when we first started at 8 yrs old. ‘Let there be Rock’ was my first AC/DC CD. Then Highway To Hell and Back in Black
Charley : My mom listened to a lot of Creedence Clearwater but my brothers and sisters listen to rap but also some thrash. I grew up listening to Slayer.
Max : For me it was Aerosmith “Rocks ” – Hendrix and Van Halen.. then Dio and Ozzy with Rhodes
Music Junkie Press: If we could peak into your Ipod or Playlist, what would be the next three songs on shuffle?
Nick: AC / DC “If you want blood – you got it” ( Live ). The Who ” 5:15 ” and Stevie Wonder ” Higher Ground ”
Chris: Tool ” Sober ” Buddy Rich ” No Jive ” Nine Inch Nails ” Down in it ”
Max : Hendrix ” If Sixes were Nines ” – Ozzy ” Diary of a Madman ” Aerosmith ” Take a while- Think about it ”
Charley : Slayer ” Reign in Blood ” Quicksand ” Dine Alone ” and The Beatles ” Revolution ”
Music Junkie Press: We have a large audience of young teens who are interested in music and what advice can you give to them?
Nick: The same thing we are taught: Stay in school because education is good. Stay out of trouble so you have your freedom. Practice hard so you have great chops.
Charley: Yeah – Practice a lot and never give up.
Music Junkie Press: If you could take any song from any type of musical genre and remake it into a rock version, what song would it be?
Chris: Ball of Confusion by The Temptations and School’s Out by Alice Cooper
Max: He is saying that because those are on our new CD
Music Junkie Press: With the 80’s making a comeback and all, if you could pick a song from the 80’s or 90’s to describe your life or be your anthem song, what would it be?
Nick: “It’s a long way to the top if you wanna rock n roll”
