Performing Artists:
Chairlift
The critically acclaimed pop duo Chairlift is comprised of writer, producer and multi-instrumentalists Caroline Polachek and Patrick Wimberly. The two collaborated with Beyoncé on her ground breaking self-titled album via the track, “No Angel,” which was written and produced by Caroline and co-produced by Patrick. Earlier this year, Chairlift released Moth (January 22, 2016; Columbia Records) featuring the infinitely danceable, R&B laced and vibrating drum infused single “Ch-Ching.” Upon hearing Moth, listeners can expect to be led through an aural mix of big, rich pop inspired hooks, vibrating bass, lively brass and sensuous R&B inspired vocals, all anchored in the duo’s meticulously crafted instrumentation.

Alvvays
Alvvays are two women, three men, a crate of cassette tapes and a love of jingle-jangle. Together the five (Molly Rankin, Kerri MacLellan, Alec O’Hanley, Brian Murphy, Philip MacIsaac) were bred in Toronto, ON. Alvvays’ internationally acclaimed self-titled debut album (July 22, 2014; Polyvinyl Records) consists of nine songs concealing drunkenness, defeat and death in tungsten-tinted pop that glitters like sea glass. It achieved “Best Album Of The Year” from Rolling Stone,Paste Magazine, Gorilla vs. Bear and more.

Born Ruffians
The Canada-based quartet Born Ruffians (Luke Lalonde: guitar/vocals; Mitch Derosier: bass; Andy Lloyd: guitar/keyboard; Adam Hindle: drums), have developed a signature aesthetic that encompasses tightly wound, trapezoidal songs frothing over with hooks and wryly cathartic lyrics. The four have garnered favorable comparisons to such quirky pop infiltrators as The Talking Heads, The Pixies and The Strokes. The newest offering, RUFF (October 2, 2015; Yep Roc Records), is a collection of scrubbed raw anthems that are defiantly optimistic, imaginatively arranged, and performed with a sense of bloodlust. RUFF stands as a poignant marriage of form, content and process that is without a doubt Born Ruffians’ most focused and mature work to date.

Mr Little Jeans
Mr Little Jeans‘ debut album Pocketknife (2014; Capitol Imprint Harvest Records) features the Norwegian chanteuse’s operative metaphor that extends to all her music: imbued with mystery and a dazzling interplay between shadow and light. Breathy vocals stab like equatorial sunrays that coexist with nocturnal synths. She became a critically revered electro-pop diva a few years back and has been compared to Lykke Li and Charli XCX while carving her own lane – a blend of Scandinavian cool and passionate lyrics. Mr Little Jeans’ music has appeared in a Honda commercial, popular television show Gossip Girl and movies including 21 Jump Street and Celeste and Jesse Forever.

The Seshen
San Francisco based seven-piece band The Seshen mixes live and electronic elements, and uses influences from eclectic sources including psychedelic, hip-hop, pop, R&B, West African music, dub and indie rock to create beat-driven compositions with a strong emotional core that hooks many from the very first listen. The band that provides the immersive sonic backdrop for the complementary vocalists, Lalin St. Juste and Akasha Orr, are bassist/producer Aki Ehara, drummer Chris Thalmann, keyboard/synth player Mahesh Rao, percussionist Mirza Kopelman and synchronizer/sampler Kumar Butler. Collectively, The Seshen creatively manipulating an array of technology alongside their more traditional instruments and acoustic percussion. After finding the perfect home on the eclectic, soulful roster of the UK’s Tru Thoughts records, The Seshen released their EP, Unravel, on October 7, 2014.

The She’s
The She’s have been playing together since elementary school. The She’s early music is a reflection of their social and musical lives colliding – coming out of a unique perspective for high school students having been tossed into the music industry at such a young age. Today, their songs develop into themes of nostalgia, the exploration of solitude, love, and heartache.

Hot Flash Heat Wave
Hot Flash Heat Wave creates melodically upbeat, hook-filled garage rock, referencing a range of influences from Girls and The Beach Boys, to Santo & Johnny and Weezer. Their style is partially a tongue and cheek nod to the dreamy, lo-fi vibes of the “chill-wave” movement, as contrasted by the more sunny, sweltering sound of their own jams (“heat-wave”). Comprised of four high school best friends living, writing, and recording under the same roof, Hot Flash released their debut record, Neapolitan, in September 2015.

Dick Stusso
Dick Stusso, born out of failure and contempt for modern life, rises to become everything he despises. On November 6, 2015, Vacant Stare Records released Bay Area swinger Dick Stusso’s first physical musical release, Nashville Dreams/Sings the Blues. Imagine a drunk, unsuccessful Elvis, recording himself entirely alone and at home. The albums, recorded using different malfunctioning recording equipment, play like the two part saga of a midnight cowboy, frustrated and paralyzed at the gates of a career driven world. Dick’s inimitable singing voice and his range of musical capabilities make this a very well constructed collection of songs that manages to keep its sense of humor. The songs become a sort of self-effigy turned party mascot he can kick around and set fire to. Light-hearted charm is curbed by cynicism owed to an underlying awareness of man’s mortality. Yet, all in all, Dick is able to sidestep becoming morose, giving us moments of happily getting drunk in the backyard and being barefoot on the porch as well as some hopeful love songs set somewhere off into the sunset.
