Check out some new hard rock from Digital Enemy

Digital Enemy

Allow me to introduce you to some new music from a newly formed band here in the Bay Area. Digital Enemy is a hard rock – metal band out of San Francisco Bay Area, and includes members of Drist (Brian da Motta, Dave Pearl, Chris Koenig ) and Sameer Khan. They have just released their first song, Into The Void.  Dave Pearl explained a bit how they formed,

Brian, Chris and myself were in a band together years back called Drist. So we know how to work well with each other and the chemistry with creating new songs just kinda just started back up like we never stopped. Sameer was actually made known to me by my friend Billy from Pushing The Sun. We saw Sameer singing cover songs on YouTube and we were blown away. I reached out to Sameer via Facebook and soon after we met up. He was into the same kinda music as us and he was really motivated to make music a career. We jammed a few times and things just seemed to click. So here we are. Months later. A real band with a real song.

Their powerful debut song was not always called Into The Void as Dave shares a funny anectdote of their songwriting techniques,

The kinda funny backstory on the song, and all songs, is that we give them working titles until the song is finished. Then we give the song an actual title. So the working title for this song was actually called “Lost Turtle” because the day we started tracking it I was watching the news and some animal expert was talking about this South American turtle that wasn’t native to the area, but somehow made its way into the bay. Something about the warming of the water that led the turtle up this way. The expert said the turtle was lost so that’s how we came up with the name. We usually pick something weird or funny that happened on the day we start tracking the song for the working title.

The song was recorded in Dave’s home studio and Sameer tracked his vocals at his home. They did  all the bass, drums, guitars and mixing at my studio. Dave, comments, “The song was self produced by the band. Everyone contributed ideas. Personally, I’ve always wanted to self produce a song with only my band mates from start to finish. Just to see what we could do. It’s not as polished as something we could get by working with a seasoned producer in a first class studio, but I think we did a pretty good job for tracking most of it in a garage”.

The song captures an element of suspended time and dimention. Vocalist Sameer comments,

“The music made me feel like I was being sucked into a black hole and transported to this vast, empty space. So I came up with this idea of being lost in the void, trying to find your way back with nothing to guide you. It was this weird, out of body experience and it really drove the choice in lyrics.”

Make sure to visit their social media sites as they h ave a few more tracks that will soon be released. They also plan on playing live this summer so don’t miss any of their announcements.
