Music Junkie Press: Thank you very much for taking the time out to talk with us here at Music Junkie Press. First we have to congratulate you guys on the passion you bring to your music and determination to keep ROCK alive and thriving!

You guys truly bring the rock and roll alive with your music. We have been noticing quite a rustle in the music industry that indicates a big rock wind is coming. Do you feel it as well?

Bryan Fontez: Thank you so much for the kind words we really appreciate it and we definitely feel the same way. We definitely feel it. With bands like Rival Sons, Royal Blood, Monster Truck, The Temperance Movement and a whole bunch of other heavy, soulful, blues rock influenced bands popping up all over the world it’s clear that rock is far from dead or dying and that it lives on strong and passionately through all these amazing musicians that we’re massive fans of.

Music Junkie Press: Can you tell us your inspiration behind the new single, SIN?

Bryan: “Sin” was a song that came out of our love for the kind of filthy hard rock that doesn’t seem to exist in mainstream music anymore. Among many others Velvet Revolver has been such a huge influence on us as a band. They have the perfect mix of sleaze, aggression, blues and soul, which has always been a huge inspiration to us. So it’s no coincidence that one day on the way to work I happened to be going back and forth between “Slither” and “She Builds Quick Machines” trying to figure out what it is exactly that makes those songs so great.

I tend to get soo inspired by certain songs that I make it my mission to create my own version of them. I quickly realized that both songs had a pretty fast tempo, a very iconic but simple guitar riff, and a super catchy chorus, so I started there and came up with a very simple 3 note guitar riff that repeats itself as a triplet in 4/4 time. I’m not a guitarist by any means so our lead guitarist Brenden brilliantly came up with pretty much all the other guitars parts in the song and filled in the gaps.

The song began to take on a somewhat darker tone, which reminded us of more aggressive songs by bands like Alice In Chains and Stone Temple Pilots. We never try to force a song to be something that it’s not, so I made it my goal to channel that edgier vibe when it came to the lyrics and vocals. Society has become more ignorant, naive and lacking in common sense than ever before. The lyrics depict a world that is choosing to ignore the consequences of their actions and would rather continue shooting themselves in the foot then be a part of the solution.

Music Junkie Press:  You guys are also known for quite an energetic live performance, can you tell everyone what they can expect from a Last Bullet live show?

Bryan: Filthy, Nasty, Passionate, High-Energy, Intense, sexy, heavy, loud Rock N’ Roll music that will make you down your glass and shake your ass.

Music Junkie Press:  To harness that energy that you guys bring to the stage, do you have any pre-show rituals?

Bryan: Nothing crazy, I like to do some stretches, vocal warm-ups and have some peppermint tea with honey before I go on stage. The rest of the guys usually start pulling out their guitars and warming up the fingers/strings, doing scales, messing around, etc. for bigger shows we huddle up and hype each other up and then go out there leave people feeling like they should have payed more to see a show like that ; ) \m/

Music Junkie Press: You guys released a killer video for your song, SIN which was filmed in quite a historic building. It has such a rich history, could you feel the energy in the building and have any paranormal experiences during filming?

Bryan: You could definitely feel that the building was full of memories, and that it had it’s own energy and atmosphere. There’s been murders, suicides, parties, conferences, meetings, thefts, trespassing, concerts any event, criminal activity, musician or celebrity you can name has more than likely stayed, partied or fornicated there.

No paranormal activity of any kind, at least we didn’t notice or realize any. Some of the staff claimed that the hotel is haunted especially the attic and the stairwell up to it. A few people had hung themselves there apparently. But we filmed during the day and we were way too busy and focused to really get a proper chance to take in the energy from the building and our surroundings in general.

Music Junkie Press:  What are you guys working on now?

Bryan: We’ve got plans to tour and play a lot this year. We’ve got an East Coast Tour planned in May another in September and then in between we’re booked for a bunch of summer festivals. The plan is to just keep writing, recording, playing, touring and losing our fuckin minds trying to become successful enough to quit our jobs and make music full time.

Music Junkie Press:  Will we get to see some shows down here in California soon? We hope to see you guys out here.

Bryan: I most certainly hope so! We like to think that our style of rock was born out of a lot of the band that came from Cali. Touring the US has always been a high priority on our list. I really hope we can make it happen sooner than later. And if we do California is a state that we’ve always dreamed of hitting.

Music Junkie Press: When you guys are out on the road, what is something that you miss or that fans could bring you guys as a way to thank you for your music?

Bryan: Can’t say we’ve ever gotten that question before, so good job lol. Other than our friends, families and the comfort of our own home, I don’t think there’s much we miss that can be replicated or given to us. To be honest the best thing a person could do to help us is offer a clean, warm, comfortable bed and a shower, food and beer would just be a bonus. Too often we find ourselves provided with hotels by the venue that are some of the most disgusting and vile places we’ve ever seen and are completely impossible to sleep in. Luckily we have some amazing friends and fans all over Canada some of whom have offered their places to us after meeting us for the first time the night of our show, which is ridiculously kind and appreciated on a level that we can’t explain. Grinding on the road is really tough, especially of an independent band that does and finances everything ourselves, so it’s nice to get some help and support once and a while.

Music Junkie Press: We at Music Junkie Press are strong believers of how music can help, heal, inspire all of us. Do you have a particular story you could share about a song or band that helped you through something?

Bryan:I’m a really big fan Billy Talent, especially when I was younger. They’re big in Canada and Europe but not as much in the US. They’ve got some great lyrics that have really stuck with me and help paint a picture of what it’s like to go through difficult times in your life. Musically Radiohead has helped me a lot, it’s really soothing and almost therapeutic to listen to, each album is crafted so dynamically that if you close your eyes and let it take you, you’ll really feel like your mind is travelling through space and time to music that sounds almost alien-like. Nirvana helped me get all my frustration and aggression out when I was a kid lol. And The Beatles have always connected with me on so many levels, especially their last couple of albums.

Music Junkie Press: Do you have a certain Go To song that you play to get yourself in a good mood or ready to take on the world?

Bryan: lol I don’t. But there’s nothing that pumps me up more than Rage Against The Machine. When I listen to that first album front to back, it makes me want to go to fucking war. I don’t know with who or what, but it gets me so jacked up I feel invincible when I listen to that album. It’s amazing. I listen to it almost every time I go to the gym or running. Queen’s Of The Stone Age album Songs For The Deaf does the same thing for me, especially the tune “Song For The Dead” Dave Grohl loses his mind on that song and it makes me feel like running into a brick wall head first in the best way possible lol.

Music Junkie Press: Lastly, is there something you would like to share with our audience and your fans?

Bryan: I just wanted to say thank you for taking the time out to read this interview, and thank you to Music Junkie for featuring us! If you’d like more music, video, info, merch, show dates and more go to LastBulletMusic.com and keep in touch with us!
