After Nations releases live video for “The Laceront Arc”

December 29, 2015

Prog rock trio After Nations have released a live, in studio video for their recently released single, “The Laceront Arc”. Recorded during their fall tour at Mystery Ton Studios in Monrovia, MD, it offers an up close look as these instro-shredders move through the mathy, prog-metal weirdness of the new single.   “I really can’t stand having days ‘off’ while on tour, you know?”, says guitarist Andrew Elliott.  “You’re on the road, you spend months and months planning things, and you’re there to share your music with as many people as possible. Sometimes things don’t pan out – a show gets dropped, a local band cancels, whatever – and you’re left with an open day. Sometimes those are opportunities – you just have to look at them in a different way. This video is a perfect example – a friend of mine in DC told me to reach out to Kenny (Mystery Ton Studios), so I did, and instead of sitting on our asses on a Monday in Baltimore, we made this killer video.” [Read More]

HBO’ The Latin Explosion: a celebration of todos somos Americanos, but we need more

November 24, 2015

A joyful record of Latin music in America, except California   Patrick O’Heffernan Two unforgettable  images flowed across American television screens this week: on Monday the HBO documentary The Latin Explosion: A New America  reprised 1980 news footage showing sign-waving white crowds  in Miami protesting Cuban immigrants fleeing Castro;  on Wednesday night on the Latin Grammys, rockers Maná and Los Tigres del Norte unfurled the now famous banner, “Latinos Unidos no Voten Por Los Racistas!”.  Of course, Latin Explosion executive producer Tommy Mottola had no idea that the Latin Grammys would put an exclamation point on his musical/demographic/political documentary which chronicled  – brilliantly but incompletely– the emergence of Latinos as a mainstream cultural, political and market power in the US. But there it was on two nights later on the Latin Grammy stage in front of 10 million viewers, not a bookend to his story, but rather a continuation. The documentary’s title itself announces Mottola’s  purpose, to lay out the thesis of the “New America”  Latinos are creating through their music and their influence in [Read More]

Collective Soul deliver 5 star stellar performance to the legendary Fillmore in San Francisco

November 11, 2015

Monday night at the legendary Fillmore in San Francisco was a magical evening, as Collective Soul made a stop on their See What You Started Tour to the sold out venue. The tour is in support of their recently released and highly praised new album, See What You Started By Continuing. The night started off with a great set by Magnets and Ghosts which is the alternative rock band featuring Dean Roland and Ryan Potesta. I have been waiting to see them live and they were incredible. The venue was packed to capacity as Collective Soul took the stage. I have seen Collective Soul live possibly 15 times and I must say this was the best performance I have every been privileged to watch. It was pure bliss as they sounded absolutely spot on, and delivered a vibrant new life to their songs. It was as if Collective Soul was the fountain of youth and everyone was drinking their sweet elixir. The crowd came to life with passion and unwavering energy. The predominantly middle aged [Read More]
