Tuesday night at AT&T Park in San Francisco was a magical one. It was time for legendary rockers Guns N Roses to perform their “San Francisco date for Not In This Lifetime Tour“. We arrived early to the stadium as many fans were gathered around to catch a glimpse of their idols as they sound checked early in the day. They were meeting up with other fans reminiscing about the last time they saw GnR, sharing stories of their favorite songs and creating friendships over their love of GnR. The official Guns N Roses Not In This Lifetime Merch truck was there early and gave everyone a chance to pick up their favorites before the show.
The night kicked off with a stellar set by The Struts as they got the crowd riled up and ready for a night of non-stop ROCK. We have been fans of The Struts for a while now and it was amazing to see this fast rising band from UK capture the attention of the crowd and make many more new fans.
The venue was packed as Guns N Roses took to the stage and started their first class performance with It’s So Easy followed by Mr. Brownstone. The stage setup had great lighting and included two large jumbo-tron screens, and it was a simple design that focused on the musicians as being the highlight. Sometimes a band places so much importance on an extravagant stage set up that it takes away from the real star; the artists. This was all 100% ROCK N ROLL and the spotlight was Guns n Roses! We might add they did have a spectacular pyro and fireworks display that blew everyone away.
The setlist which feature fan favorites; Welcome To The Jungle, Rocket Queen, Coma, You Could be Mine, as well as some surprises, inviting the fans to delve into the deep history of GnR and relive those forgotten gems, Double Talkin Jive, Better, Estranged, etc. Then you have the songs where the crowd couldn’t help but sing along to every word like November Rain, Sweet Child of Mine and Knockin on Heaven’s Door. The set was inclusive of high energy tracks like Live and Let Die, and Nightrain and of course the finale of Paradise City.
It was a powerful show from start to finish and Axl’s vocals were timeless as he sounded on-point and full of adrenaline. Slash will have you in awe as you watch him perform, he makes it all look so easy and yet, you have to wipe the drool off your chin as you are in a Slash-trance. Duff is phenomenal on bass and he held the crowd captive with his cool cat moves and laid back playing.
This was one magical performance as the sold out crowd was witnessing one of the best performances of Guns N Roses. Bryan Ellison, a musician himself (Bassist for Little Smoke & Flintheart) and a long time Guns N Roses fan commented, “I was in awe. Blew my expectations away. I got emotional at some parts.” That was definitely the sentiment of the majority of fans in attendance. Upon exiting the venue, once again it was how it began, with fans sharing highlights of their night and stories of GnR. It is was music should be about, people connecting and coming together for the love of music. Guns n Roses changed many lives that night as they created a highlight memory for thousands of fans.
