The Bolts Transformation Into Island Apollo at Silverlake Lounge

August 3, 2014

The Bolts Transformation Into Island Apollo at Silverlake Lounge  Orange-County based indie rockers The Bolts made a bold move early last month—they changed their name to Island Apollo. Bolder still, the five-some headed north to hipster haven Silverlake  previewing work through their new material as Island Apollo, taking up residency at the gritty Silverlake Lounge for four Mondays in July. The band—comprised of guitarists Heath Farmer and Ryan Kilpatrick, bassist Addam Farmer, keyboardist Austin Farmer, and drummer Matt Champagne—gained considerable fame as The Bolts after forming as teenagers in Orange County.  In short order, they picked up airplay on KROQ, won Orange County’s “Best Pop Artist” from the OC Music Awards, opened for Capital Cities and Third Eye Blind, appeared across local TV and, realizing every young man’s dream, had a song placed in a commercial featuring supermodel Kate Upton. At Silverlake Lounge, the group took the stage as relative newcomers. From the first show through the last, Island Apollo was not what you’d call tentative.  Despite the new name (coined for the artificial islands [Read More]

From Adventure Time to Make Out Monday, Jeremy Shada (Finn) premiere catchy new song

July 24, 2014

Make Out Monday is a new band compiled of brothers Jeremy and Zack Shada, Logan Charles, John Spicer, and Seth Renken. You might know Jeremy Shada as the voice of Finn from Adventure Time (Cartoon Network) which my oldest son loved and still enjoys watching it with his 7 year old brother. So in this house, everyone is familiar with Finn. It was cool to hear that he formed a band after doing some jam sessions in Los Angeles. What is even more amazing that these five really click together and have a solid sound that is ready to take over the alternative rock – pop punk scene.  When you take a listen to their first song, Hope Less Romantic you will be just like me, begging for more new music! Check out the track here: You can pick up the new single on iTunes here. I am really excited about this new band and look forward to what the future holds for these talented young musicians. They are set to perform this Saturday, July 26th at [Read More]

Longreef release new single/video for Battle Plan and help raise awareness of bullying

July 10, 2014

One of the hardest stories I had to write was back in October 2012 about a young teen, Amanda Todd who gave up her battle against bullying by committing suicide. It was devastating and quite an eye opener for myself and many others to hear how prevalent and widespread bullying is for today’s youth. I applaud all the organizations that worked to get the word out and raise awareness for the cause. Today I want to focus on how rockers Longreef are helping out with a great message of hope through their music. Longreef have recently released a new single along with a video for their song, Battle Plan. The new single “Battle Plan” is released in conjunction with the www.friendmovement.com to help raise awareness of the issue of bullying. First off, it is a great song in itself that is inspirational and uplifting and the vocals are truly captivating. Check out the video and also make sure to download the song here: Who is Longreef? We can’t tell you enough how awesome this new album is and I don’t think a day has gone by since first receiving it for review that we haven’t played a song or two, or three or all. They are out on tour with the Dead Rabbitts for the “Shapeshiftour” and they made a stop in San Francisco at the DNA Lounge. The lineup included a killer headlining set by Dead Rabbitts, double dose of vocals by Myka Relocate and some heavy metalcore by Nightmares. The set was everything we expected as The Relapse Symphony put on a full fledged rock set. Their stage presence captivated the crowd and Bret is definitely in the spotlight where he belongs.
