Time for An Evening with Justin Furstenfeld of Blue October

January 17, 2013

One of my favorite singers has just announced his solo tour to highlight the release of the third edition of his book! Yes, Justin Furstenfeld of Blue October has just announced dates for his solo tour titled, “An Open Book” An Evening with Justin Furstenfeld of Blue October.  This coincides with release of the expanded 3rd edition of his book of lyrics and writings dubbed “Crazy Making” due out on April 1, 2013. These shows sound like they are going to be a lot fun and insightful as to the writings of Justin. Included with spoken word by Justin, there will be a Q & A session, and acoustic songs. You can also buy one of the very limited meet and greets with Justin and sit in on his sound check. As soon as I got the email, I got our tickets to the Santa Ana show at the Observatory on April 5, 2013. This should be perfect timing for Ryan to finish the vest that he made for Justin. We saw Blue October just [Read More]

Haunted by Heroes heading back to the Whiskey for CD Release Party!

January 15, 2013

With NAMM being almost a week away, I need to tell you about another band that will be playing at the Whiskey during NAMM week. Haunted by Heroes are known as the World’s Youngest Rock Band and these kids will be rocking the Whiskey on January 25th opening for Uli Jon Roth (Scorpions) & Warren DeMartini (RATT). What an incredible talent these boys have and they haven’t even hit their teen years yet! I actually saw them play last year at NAMM and was blown away by their energy at their young ages. If you closed your eyes when you listened to them, you would have never imagined that the great rock and roll was coming from a group of 12 year olds! At the time, I didn’t know where they were from but I did hear a lot of buzz about these kids. I was even more surprised to find out they were also from the Bay Area. I loved growing up in San Mateo and it is awesome to have these kids be from Pacifica. [Read More]

Dear Papi, It was always “My Way” with you!

January 14, 2013

Dear Papi, I know you the first thing you are saying… “what are you doing using your work to talk to me!!” Well, today I just need to share and it is all about you…. My father… My love of my life… My world… I can’t remember a time when I didn’t think of you as my best friend or my hero in my world. I know how some people have changes in their relationships with their fathers, but I don’t think ours ever changed. Even when you were strict about my skirt from school being 3″ below the knee! or about not having boys call the house for me when I was 13 or about staying up past midnight on a date when I was 16! I still respected you and thought of you as the hero of my world. With all our faults together, yes, we could started a lot of riots, put liquor stores out of business, crashed a few cars, broke many laws and commandments but what we didn’t do was [Read More]

Number Station revives Alternative Hard Rock!

January 8, 2013

Number Station Sometimes you just need your music a bit heavier!! Well if now is that time, Number Station is the band for you. I recently got their EP sampler sent over and it was one of those rare moments. Those moments when I was in the middle of multitasking a hundred things at once, going over the list of things to have to get done and then popping the CD in. The first song that played was “The Invisible Fire” which has a great dark mysterious intro that just blends into a deep hardcore mix. It is like waking yourself up from a long sleep and seeing that you only have a few hours left of the day. So you wake up and give it all you got, energized and ready to scream out to the world. You are full blown energy ready to take on anything and you give everything of yourself. This song just gives and gives!  Here you can take a listen to that incredible song:   Then you get into the [Read More]

I have so many shows planned to cover for that week and I just recently added another one to my schedule. After listening to them I had to fit them in!
