Munich, Technikum, 11/07/2016

It was a busy night in Munich. Two bands that draw a similar kind of audience were announced and they played two venues that are very close to each other. Hard to choose for some which show to attend. I chose Pierce The Veil and I didn’t regret that at all.

They brought some awesome bands with them. First one to go on stage were Creeper, a relatively young punk band (they started out in 2014) from the United Kingdom. I already caught them live this year on tour with Neck Deep. Creeper are five guys and a girl, Hannah Greenwood on keys. She does backing vocals on stage, which sound awesome together with Will Gould, their singer. So far Creeper only released EP’s. They announced their debut record ‘Eternity, In Your Arms’ for March 2017. One of the songs they performed was ‘Suzanne’, the first single from their upcoming record. Aside from that they played songs like ‘Black Mass’, ‘Lie Awake’ and  more. I especially love the performance of the more quiet song ‘Misery’, where Hannah joined Will in the chorus parts. If before their performance they might not be known by many people in the room, after they’ve finished their set, they surely made some new fans.

Second band to play that night was letlive. This band has been around for quite some time now. They are loved by many and well known for some action on stage. That show as no exception. Their singer Jason Butler was constantly on the move. During the second song he left the stage and ran off with his microphone. Tricky fact though, that microphone also had a cable. So immediately some stage guys grabbed it and held it up above peoples’ heads, because by then Jason was already in the middle of the crowd, jumping and moshing around with the fans. Sometimes it was hard to make him out. His absence of stage took quite some time because he then left the venue through a side door, still singing, just to come back in after a few seconds with a cardboard box over his head. After a second round through the audience he decided to make his way back and climbed over the barrier and back on the stage. letlive. is probably one of the most exciting bands on stage, because you never know what’s going to happen. Much fun to see them perform. The set-list included ‘A Weak Ago’, ‘Foreign Cab Rides’, ‘Reluctantly Dead’, ‘Renegade’ and more.

On to the headliner. Pierce The Veil entered the stage at about 9.30 pm. A few tunes into the opening song a big load of confetti were fired into the audience. This shouldn’t be the last time though. The band was welcomed by a mostly young and female screaming audience. Although the venue wasn’t that cramped, the atmosphere throughout the whole set was amazing. Vic Fuentes, their frontmen, sometimes added little stories to the songs and explained how they came about, like f.e. the song ‘Kissing In Cars’, which the band was asked to write for a wedding or the song ‘Hold On Till May’, which they wrote for a friend that was neglected by their parents as a kid, ran away, climbed a tree and waited to be found. For the song ‘Bulletproof Love’ they picked one girl from the audience that joined the band on stage, surely a thing she’ll remember for quite some time. They also played ‘Tangled In The Great Escape’, where Jason Butler, who was also part of the original recording, joined the band on stage. Chances aren’t that few to hear songs that were recorded with other artists actually performed live in that same constellation. What makes shows fun to watch in general is, when the band itself is obviously having fun on stage. This definitely is the case with Pierce The Veil. That fun is sweeping over the audience in a matter of seconds. No chance to stand still and just watch. You practically have to bop your head and dance. They closed their set with their latest release ‘Circles’ from their recent record ‘Misadventures’ and ‘King For A Day’.

To sum it up, a fun and exciting night with three amazing bands. Perfect start into the week.

This tour has only just started, so go grab yourself a ticket and catch that awesome line up live.
