Introducing Back Garden Light from France. Contributed by Alex Bock

Today I’d like to introduce an up and coming band from France to you. They’re called Back Garden Light. Matthieu Kirby, their rhythm guitarist, sat down to answer some questions that give you some insights on the band.

Where do you come from?

We come from Bordeaux, France

Is there a story behind the band name ?

Well, we wanted something that sounds good with a bad English accent for the French people. At first we wanted to name the band Anchorless Heroes, but with a bad English (French) accent, it sounded like you were saying “oh fuck cirrhosis again !!!So we came up with Back Garden Light because we liked the idea of this small light in the night in a backyard. Somehow we feel Nostalgia thinking about this.

How did you form?

Louis wanted to form a band and we all knew each other so everything went pretty fast. He started writing with Max, then Louis asked Lilian to join the band, then Tom. At last I had the pleasure to work with them on the production of the first tracks, and I just asked if I could join the band as second guitarist, and they accepted.

You are all pretty young. How do you handle school/band practice/curfews in clubs etc.?

In fact Lilian (17) is the youngest and Louis the oldest (25). Lilian, Tom and Max are still studying but we always find ways to handle all the music stuffs.

You recently released a video for the song ‘Berserker’? How are the crowd responses so far?

I think our fans really enjoyed this music video. They found the music catchy, and most of our audience really enjoyed the neon effects and overall concept of the video. We are very happy about this clip that shows pretty well the “Back Garden Light vibe”.

It’s the third single of your EP ‘Life’s A Game’. When will the EP be released? Where can people get it?

It will be available on all the streaming platforms, and physical copies will be sold on our big cartel backgardenlight.bigcartel.com ! For the release date …. well we don’t know either because we have to push it back a little bit.

Any tour plans for the near future?

We’re gonna tour a lot in Europe and France this summer! Everything should be announced soon.
