Fact: It is estimated that every two seconds someone in the United States needs blood.[i] Often this means that hospitals face the challenge of having enough blood to meet patient needs.1,2

SEAL BEACH, CA – For more than 10 years Music Saves Lives has taken on the mission of blood centers across the nation and around the world to educate youth about the importance of blood donation, and to help build a new generation of young blood donors.  2016 marks the 11th year working with the Vans Warped Tour, the longest running summer music festival in the US.  This tour focuses on bringing new and upcoming music to a young audience.  Over 500,000 young people between 15-20 years old attend more than 40 dates every summer.  Music Saves Lives has tapped into this crowd and found a unique way to solve a crisis.  Individuals who organize and run successful blood drives with partnering blood centers across the nation and in Canada receive a free ticket with VIP access to the Vans Warped Tour concert.  To entice the friends of the young people running the drive, those that donate blood get a special voucher good at the Vans Warped Tour for meet and greets and photos with bands that play at the festival.  In most states the minimum donor age is 16 years old.

Right now Music Saves Lives is looking for motivated young people in high school or college that love new music and have the desire to save lives, run a blood drive and attend the Vans Warped Tour this summer.

Fact: With advances in medical treatments and an aging population, the demand for donated blood continues, as fewer people are becoming lifelong donors.[ii]

 About Music Saves Lives

In an effort to raise awareness about blood donation and encourage young adults to become repeat blood donors, Music Saves Lives® is announcing its eleventh year joining forces with blood centers all over the US.   Music Saves Lives partners with musicians, entertainers and festivals to encourage young adults to participate in community blood drives and then thanks donors by giving them special access to music and entertainment.  This special program designed by founder and director of Music Saves Lives, Russel Hornbeek, offers a summer program to help raise and maintain the fragile summer blood supply.  Thousands of units of blood are collected during the school year from college and high schools and when summer rolls around the students are looking to music as the top entertainment during their off time.  Youth will then donate blood to be able to meet a favorite band or get backstage at festivals and concerts during the summer months. Music Saves Lives is a 501(c)(3) organization with the mission to educate about important life-saving causes and to use all forms of music and entertainment to motivate and deliver this message. Music Saves Lives started its mission to educate youth about the importance of blood donation and the bone marrow registry, encouraging participation and commitment to action in a life-saving way.  Over 50% of the blood collected in the US goes to helping those fighting cancer.  These simple commitments all connect back to strengthening the community.
