October 14, 2014

Concert Review Escape The Fate w. New Years Day and Glamour Of The Kill at STROM, Munich Contributed by Alexandra –  Twitter; https://twitter.com/lexi22473_b Doors opened right on time at 8.30 pm, which is unusually late for a show. The start was announced for 9.30 pm, but already at 9 pm New Years Day started playing. It was their first time in Germany, as singer Ash Costella told, but they were not completely unknown to part of the audience that sang along their songs. Next up were Glamour Of The Kill from the UK. It’s been their second time in Germany. Last time they came here, they opened up for Papa Roach. Jacoby Shaddix, the singer of Papa Roach, makes an appearance on GOTK’s new single Out of Control which they also played that night, along with well known songs like Second Chance and Freak Like Me. They had to fight with some technical difficulties during their set, but they managed to keep the crowd going, asking for someone to bring 4 Tequilas to the stage, to [Read More]

WVM releases two tracks off his upcoming album, Waves of Nothing.

October 14, 2014

American analog electro artist WVM has released two tracks, ‘Empire’ and ‘Pale Horse’ off of his upcoming album “Waves Of Nothing“, the release of which has not yet been announced. ‘Empire’ and ‘Pale Horse’ were made using analog synths and drum machines, I was heavily inspired by the synth music of the 80s but the songs are not rooted in any era as they sound like they could come from the past, present or future. – WVM Check out the two songs here: The songs are definitely going to become favorites for a range of generations. Not only do they bring the vibrancy and energy from the 80’s synth era but are not dated in any way, so even the youthful generation will love it. It brings me back to my youthful weekends spent at the DNA Lounge for SF Synth nights!  Both tracks have us excited for the new album which we will keep you updated as to a release date. Both of the tracks were produced, performed, arranged and composed byWVM and mixed by Sean [Read More]

Kat McDowell’s USA debut Rise Above is a winner from the first note by Patrick O’Heffernan

October 13, 2014

The thing about Kat McDowell is that she is just plain fun to listen to. And remarkably, she is fun to listen to in two languages, English and Japanese.  And that’s not an easy thing to accomplish, given the difference between the two languages. But  Kat McDowell does it so well that in any language her music can make you sit up and take notice, or just let you happily tap your feet. Either way, she is a musical force on a fast track.   Born in Japan, raised mostly in New Zealand, with many parts of both cultures inside her, she combines pop, J-Pop, calypso, rock and a positive musical attitude in a mixture that is like sunshine to listen to.  She built a successful career in Japan and now is in the USA, Los Angeles to be geographically exact, enjoying its surf (she is avid surfer), its plethora of recording assets and a world  class population of collaborating artists.  The first fruits of that relocation, the album Rise Above,  is due out in [Read More]

Charlie Overbey and The Broken Arrows set to debut at The Viper Room in November

October 13, 2014

Allow me to introduce you to Charlie Overbey’s new band, Charlie Overbey and The Broken Arrows. ‘Charlie spent years evolving as a musician, from Sunset Strip band Big Bang Babies to cowpunks Custom Made Scare to Deadbolt and Charlie And The Valentine Killers. Now he has emerged — not entirely unscathed — as a pretty serious songwriter.’ Today, Charlie is ready to shine in the spotlight as he makes his debut with his new band at The Viper Room on November 6th for their debut show. The band features Jimmy James (Hangmen, Masons), Dave James (Superbees), Jordan Shapiro (Supersuckers), Joe Ginsberg (Chuck Ragan) — and the new kid Charlie Nice – round out Charlie Overbey‘s stellar new band The Broken Arrows. Charlie says, “We’ve all lived a lot, we’ve all toured a lot, and we’ve all loved and lost a lot. I believe this is the key to a group of dudes that can relate to one another, and hang with mutual respect as a cohesive traveling unit and as a Band Of Brothers. Only with this kind [Read More]

Pink Slips gives punk rock a welcoming synthpop facelift

October 13, 2014

Today our music scene contains a never ending list of genres or subgenres but what we really are missing is a rekindling of our love for punk rock and synth. Imagine a young band that brings to life your love of 90’s synth pop music and wraps it deliciously in young spirited punk rock. No need to dream about it, because Pink Slips is the answer to your wishes. The LA based punk rock band, Pink Slips is fronted by 17 year old Grace McKagan. Yes, the name might sound familiar, she is the daughter of Duff McKagan (GUNS N’ ROSES/VELVET REVOLVER/WALKING PAPERS). In addition to Grace, the band features Keenan Bevens and Trent Peltz and they have recently released their infectiously catchy 6 song EP, Say L’or Venus which is available on iTunes here.  Grace’s vocals remind me of a blend of Debbie Harry, Kim Wilde and modern day Taylor Momsen. She brings out such a fun flirty side to her music. It is charismatic, edgy and invigorating. The EP starts right off with my favorite [Read More]
