Watch Matt Nathanson’s inspirational new video for Headphones featuring his trip to Peru

October 23, 2014

Matt Nathanson recently made a trip to Peru with the Starkey Hearing Foundation on a mission to fit people with free hearing aids. As Matt says, ” i’ve been trying to write a short piece about my experience for weeks now. it’s been really hard. words kinda fail it. if i didn’t have my hearing, i wouldn’t have music. and if i didn’t have music, i definitely wouldn’t have survived my childhood. listening to albums and seeing bands and being connected to songs was EVERYTHING to me. it still is. it makes me feel not alone. it helps me transcend my broken brain. in fact, the only reason i play music is because i love it so much. i couldn’t stay on the sidelines, i HAVE to be a part of it. Going to peru was super heavy. the people were incredible. to be in service to them, to assist in connecting them to their kids laughter, to their parents voices, to MUSIC!… it was completely humbling. and overwhelming. i felt love and gratitude towards [Read More]

Catch Youth in Revolt out on the Not Your American Idols Tour

October 23, 2014

Tuesday night we made our way to Sacramento to cover the Not Your American Idols Tour in Sacramento at the Assembly Music Hall. The crowd was ready and the bands definitely were there to deliver incredible sets. Youth In Revolt from New Jersey was one of the bands that I was looking forward to catching live. They were awesome with energy that filled the stage and poured into the crowd. They delivered an intense dose of hardcore to the Sacramento crowd. You couldn’t keep yourself contained as you would get amped watching the fierce jumping of the bassist and guitarists. Every member of the band holds an incredible stage presence and they got the crowd off their feet and captivated them from start to finish. Definitely one of the stand out bands of the night and I am already looking forward to seeing them again! Check out the photos from Rockin Ryan of their set: There are still several dates left on the tour and if you can, make sure to see them. 10/23 – [Read More]

An audience-pleasing Jack Kovacs debuts “The State Line” at Hotel Café by Patrick O’Heffernan

October 23, 2014

Hollywood. You come to a live show to get something extra you don’t get by listening to an album. Jack Kovacs gave that something extra to us Saturday night at the Hotel Café, he gave us himself, in words, music and conversation. Billed as an EP release party, Kovac’s appearance Saturday night was less of a party and more of a gathering of friends as he debuted his new EP, “The State Line”. The crowd was tight and intimate at the storied venue, relishing his music and his just darn plain friendliness. In a world in which many performers are uncomfortable talking and seem at times to hide behind their music, Kovacs was not only comfortable conversing but in his wheelhouse. He obviously loves people and we loved him. Kovacs and his six person band took us on a melodic and introspective look into the mind of a young songwriter just beginning to discover his power. He has learned to inhabit the in-between spaces that separate public musical expression from internal contemplation. The result on [Read More]

Ice Nine Kills makes a stop in Sacramento for the Not Your American Idols Tour

October 23, 2014

Ice Nine Kills are currently out on the Not Your American Idols Tour and we are happy they made a stop in Sacramento earlier this week. One thing is for sure, they put on an incredibly fierce and energetic set every time they perform. This time was no different as they unleashed their energy onto the crowd at the Assembly Music Hall.  It was also a hard night considering they had just learned about the passing of Tyson Stevens from Scary Kids Scaring Kids and they even dedicated a song. The crowd was intense as they had quite a stream of crowd surfers and determined moshers. Of course Spencer couldn’t hold back as he joined in the crowd surfing!  Check out the photos from our Rockin Ryan of their set here: In case you missed it, make sure to watch their recently released acoustic video for Jonathan. The traditionally melodic heavy band show their emotional soft side as they truly deliver a moving and poignant video which features Jonathan, a handsome young man who suffers [Read More]
