Photo Gallery: Andy Black was a summer highlight of Vans Warped Tour

August 7, 2017

Andy Black, a Warped Tour highlight. This year’s Vans Warped Tour had quite a variety of artists to choose from and insured something for everyone.  As we begin our feature on our spotlight Vans Warped Tour artists, we kick it off with Andy Black. Andy was a summer highlight for so many on this year’s Warped Tour. He continued to grace the lists of Must-See Bands and Favorite Sets. We. of course had to wait until the very last few dates to get our Andy Black fix in and it was every bit worth it. Andy delivered a high energy set that had the crowd mesmerized from start to finish. He had ultimate swagger as he controlled the set with his commanding performance. His smooth vocals would dance amid the fine balance of moody and dark to infectiously pop.  The crowd erupted in cheer after every song as they continued to sing every lyric. His songs are not defined by a genre as they bring out everything from alternative, pop, rock, new wave and more. [Read More]

Interview

Interview. No Small Children: mild-mannered teachers by day, tear-your-face-off alt. rockers by night.

August 7, 2017

Patrick O’Heffernan (Los Angeles) No Small Children is a band like no other.  Born on an elementary school playground in the spring of 2012, the trio are school teachers by day and a phenomenally successful hard rock band by night.  And they move very fast.  Three months after deciding to use their recess breaks as band practice time they had an EP out, countless shows behind them and an East Coast tour booked.  Plus, their remake of the classic Ghostbusters theme song was released by RCA records and is featured in the new Ghostbusters movie. And the band’s original song, ‘Big Steps‘, is featured in the Netflix series, Santa Clarita Diet.  They  released their third album, Hold Tight, I’m Flying, in 2015 and singles have flowed steadily since then.  Their live shows are insanely animated and can exhaust both the audience and the band. Fortunately, they were not too exhausted to talk with me before heading off on a national tour.   Patrick.  When I saw you live  you were insanely fun and so wonderfully over the top.  How did that happen? Were you always this [Read More]

GARBAGE out on tour with Blondie, shares music video for new single, “No Horses”

August 3, 2017

GARBAGE SHARES MUSIC VIDEO FOR NEW SINGLE “NO HORSES”. Garbage today shared a music video for their new single “No Horses”. Directed by Pancake Mountain creator Scott Stuckey, “No Horses” was released last month and is available now HERE. All of the band’s profits from sales and streaming of the single will be donated to the International Committee of the Red Cross through the end of 2018. Watch the video below: Scott Stuckey comments on the video’s inspiration, “It’s been my observation that when governments disregard their citizens for their own greed, the ensuing soundtrack usually kick’s ass. Like Nina Simone’s ‘Mississippi Goddam’ or the Clash’s ‘Straight To Hell’, ‘No Horses’ made me realize that I’m not going insane, these really are fucked up times. The lyrics are powerful so the challenge was to add something visually that wouldn’t ruin the individual’s interpretation.” Garbage kicked off their co-headline “Rage & Rapture Tour” with Blondie on July 5th in Saratoga, CA and will be touring the U.S. for the duration of the summer. Both bands along with an opening [Read More]

VIDEO: Mona Borland featuring melodic metalcore infused with grungy metal vibes

August 3, 2017

Get ready for your order! Here you go: Mona Borland is serving up some infectious melodic metalcore with a side of grunge metal making a perfect dish. Dallas based Mona Borland wanted to create something a little different and they definitely have satisfied us with their music! A little more about Mona Borland: A 4-piece outfit, their sound is best summarized as a cohesive blend of grungy alt-rock and melodic metalcore with powerful choruses. In less than a year, the band has quickly become a prominent name in the DFW metal scene, sparking a buzz with their 1st self-released EP, “Sad Sounds from Space”.           On paper, something like this—djenty space/post-rock-influenced post-mathcore—not only makes me look like I’m a genre whore, but it also doesn’t sound like something that’d be very good in execution. It’s tough to write hybridized metal, in my opinion; there’s very little room for success because you need to make the genres nearly seamless. Yet, Mona Borland manages to do this, and as far as I know, Sad Sounds From Space [Read More]

Legendary Rockers AUTOGRAPH signs to EMP Label Group as they announce new album release

August 3, 2017

One of my favorite long time rockers Autograph have announced their signing to EMP Label Group. With the signing, comes the announcement that they will be releasing their new album GET OFF YOUR ASS on October 6th on CD and Digital, with a limited edition vinyl LP version available in November. Check out the news below: GET OFF YOUR ASS is the first official studio LP from the revamped quartet, featuring original/founding members guitarist Steve Lynch and bassist Randy Rand, alongside new vocalist/rhythm guitarist Simon Daniels, and drummer Marc Wieland. Lynch, an iconic guitarist, revered Worldwide as a bona fide guitar hero (known for his signature 8 finger hammer-on technique), reactivated the band in 2013 with bassist Randy Rand after reconnecting at the NAMM Show. After approaching original vocalist Steve Plunkett, who was unavailable for the reunion due to other business interests, with his blessing, the newly resurrected AUTOGRAPH recruited former JAILHOUSE vocalist Simon Daniels, the rest, as they say, is history. GET OFF YOUR ASS features an updated, hard-edged (and keyboard free) sound for the band, featuring down-tuned guitars, and the fiery, blues-soaked delivery of Daniels, [Read More]
