Rising Indie rockers The Backfires have released their debut album, This Is Not An Exit, and it is definitely one you don’t want to miss.
The band says,
“On paper, The Backfires have been a band since 2018. But for us, there’s a feeling we only really became a band in 2022 when we started living together in New York City, practicing and writing in a rundown rehearsal studio six nights a week. We didn’t know at the time that we were writing our debut album This Is Not An Exit, but it came together semi-accidentally as we honed the way we wanted to sound on stage.
While the name is derived from a common safety sign on the backstage door of Mercury Lounge, where we played our first show in New York, the record is about all of the missteps and growing pains of your early twenties. It’s the soundtrack of our journey so far and a love letter to the guitar music we grew up on.”
The album kicks off with Brighter Lights, immediately pulling you into the musical journey they’re ready to take you on. The album brims with energy, delivering a collection of charismatic and infectious tracks that showcase the band’s undeniable talent. For me, the standout moment—or the peak of the album—is the stellar track Turn Off The Lights. From my very first listen, it’s been on repeat, and I can’t get enough of it. But truly, the entire album is packed with incredible songs that I can’t wait to experience live.
As the album closes with its title track, This Is Not An Exit, it feels like the perfect send-off—ushering you out of their sonic world while subtly hinting that there’s so much more to come from The Backfire. This album proves that they’re just getting started. Every song is bound to become one of your new favorites.
In support of the new album, The Backfires will be out on their winter headline tour and we are excited to see a San Francisco date for us to cover. Check the tour dates and make sure to get your tickets to their shows.
