Motörhead delivers epic set at The Warfield in San Francisco

August 25, 2015

We are only days away from the release of Motörhead‘s  new album, Bad Magic on August 28th. The album is a pure musical gem that highlights their signature sound and takes you on rock and roll adventure. They have also set out on a 40th anniversary world tour in support of their new album. The tour kicked off last week in Riverside and we were excited to catch their San Francisco show last night at The Warfield. Opening up the night was Crobot who blew us away last year when we first saw them roll through San Francisco at the DNA Lounge. You can check out our interview with them from that night and full coverage by heading over here: Interview with Crobot at DNA. They started the night off with their dirty groove style complete with riff heavy stoner rock vibes. Next up was a stellar performance by the legendary Saxon. Holy hell they were incredible and their energy was nonstop. With a set list that took us back in time for some treasures that [Read More]

Interview with Tara Macri and check out her video for Prettiest Girl In The Room

August 16, 2015

Los Angeles based singer, Tara Macri released her great new video for her song, Prettiest Girl In The Room and it truly is a feel good song for a much needed pick me up. We recently had the opportunity to interview Tara and are pleased to bring that to you: Music Junkie Press: Thank you Tara for taking the time out to talk with us here at Music Junkie Press. First we wanted to congratulate you on the great video and song, Prettiest Girl In The Room. It truly captures the emotion of how someone can change your whole perspective.   You have starred in many Broadway productions, can you tell us how you decided to forge ahead with your music? Tara Macri:  I’ve always been writing and working on my music at the same time as performing on-stage.  On my days off, I can be found in the studio and even, sometimes, I’ll hit the studio during the day before a show. If I am working in New York doing a play, I would [Read More]

The Silent War band: nothing silent about the music or the message. By Patrick O’Heffernan

June 3, 2015

One of the joys of the LA music scene – the largest and best in the nation (sorry, New York and Nashville) is that you can just wander into a club and run into top tier talent, and not only top tier, but unique and exciting in ways that you just won’t find anywhere else.  I had a night off this week and stopped into my favorite showcase club, The Hotel Café in Hollywood, and found myself at a front table about six feet away from two black-clad and tattooed women with rhythm guitars who led an alt rock band that is still ringing in my ears days later, in a good way, The band was The Silent War, led by Garrison Starr and Adrianne Gonzalez and there is nothing silent about them. Each of their 11 songs had the fully packed house rocking out or breath-held quiet. The duo, who have been in a residency at the Hotel Café, opened up with Setting Sun looking at each other knowingly as they asked “when are [Read More]

The Agonist announces dates for Revolver Magazine’s Women In Rock Tour

May 27, 2015

Montreal based The Agonist have recently released their fifth studio album THE EYE OF PROVIDENCE via Century Media. They have also just announced dates for Revolver Magazine’s Women In Rock Tour which will be co-headlined by Dutch symphonic metal titans EPICA and Swiss folk metallers ELUVEITIE. Check out their video for “Danse Macabre” which is on their new album: ‘THE EYE OF PROVIDENCE, or God’s all-seeing eye, is a piece of religious iconography with origins stemming back to ancient Egypt. But THE AGONIST aren’t going all History Channel on their new album. The lyrical center isn’t about pyramids, the Freemasons, or its appearance on the United States one-dollar bill. As on previous albums, The Agonist are commenting heavily on advances in monitoring technology, particularly as it relates to governments intruding on the private lives of its citizens.’ Guitarist Danny Marino comments, “We are embracing a number of new topics. The Agonist still wants to be a voice for change. However, there are many socio-political and personal topics that we haven’t yet covered. We get into some of those on this record.”  Check [Read More]

Starlight Highway takes you to the eye of Corinne West’s musical storm. By Patrick O’Heffernan

May 26, 2015

In the decade I have known and listened to Corinne West, her music has been both my refuge and my addiction. From the stomach-tightening interior ballad “Angel“ on her 2004 album, Bound for Living, to the drumming authority of “Pollen” in the 2014 re-mastered The Promise, Corinne West’s music has been in a class of its own, with a shelf of its own in my collection. Her new album, Starlight Highway will receive even a higher place of honor in my Corrine West shelf.  Starlight Highway is transformative:  it sounds – no, it feels – like Corinne has taken you to a different dimension, one that is sensual beyond what  music is capable of. It courses through your headphones or speakers like a transfusion of her  life-force to yours.   Listening to Starlight Highway puts you in the serene eye of a swirling storm of notes, images, rhythms, stories and above all, that voice.  Starlight Highway unfurls the ripening of West’s  voice that a decade ago soared crystalline clear, but sometimes cruised with jagged [Read More]
