SHOW REVIEW: Maggie Rogers brings a magical soul touching performance to Fox Theater

April 21, 2019

We have been anxiously awaiting the return of Maggie Rogers to the Bay Area. Last year, she blew us away with her outstanding performances at Outside Lands and the Fillmore. Well, Friday night she returned with a phenomenal show at the Fox Theater in Oakland. The night kicked off with an impressive set by Melanie Faye. She captivated the crowd with funk and flash, rockin her guitar and having us applaud her  every note. I was grateful for the introduction to the new artist and I can’t wait to see Melanie once again. You can catch her return to the Bay Area on May 18th as she will be opening for Mac DeMarco at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium. As expected, when the lights dimmed, the sold out crowd loudly sang to Abba’s Dancing Queen, inciting energy throughout the venue. The set kicked off in high gear with a flawless intoxicating performance of Give a Little. From the first song to the last, the crowd was fully enveloped in the intense energy that Maggie gave to [Read More]

Noah Kahan captures the heart of fans at Fox Theater in Oakland with stellar set

March 28, 2019

It is so rewarding to see an artist progress through their music and to see their fanbase and popularity grow.  We had the pleasure of catching Noah Kahan perform last night at the Fox Theater in Oakland, as he is out on tour opening for James Bay. We first met Noah in San Francisco as he opened for Milky Chance at The Independent, a small intimate venue. He was a new artist on the Republic Records roster and had only played a handful of shows. His song, Young Blood boasted over a million streams in the first month, it currently has well over 9 million streams! We had the chance to chat with him briefly after his show in 2017 and you can check that clip out below:   Oakland Show Fast forward to last night at the Fox and the crowd went wild when Noah hit the stage. It was great to see such a warm reception for an opening act.  Noah performed with a full band and truly delivered a full bodied rich [Read More]

Magic Giant, Castlecomer, and Weathers bring the party to August Hall in San Francisco

March 2, 2019

San Francisco – It was standing room only as Magic Giant took the stage with their opening song “Glass Heart”. The indie folk band from Los Angeles continued playing hits such as “Jade”, “Hide Away” and “Disaster”.  The engird was contagious. Austin Bisnow continued to use every part of the stage to get the crowd to the energy and feel he wanted to feel. The highlight of the night was when Austin Bisnow asked the fans to make a path down the middle of the audience area. Fans much abide by his request and had fellow bandmates, Zambricki and Brian Zaghi follow him to the center of the audience. While Magic Giant were in the center of the crowd and Austin asked the fans “to come in closer” as they began to play “The Great Divide”. It was a unique experience as the entire fans came together as one while singing along and swaying to the music in unison. The Austin asked the audience to pull out their flashlights as the fans lit up the [Read More]

Avatar with Dylan Walshe and The Mahones live at the Backstage Werk. Contributed by Alex Bock

February 10, 2019

Munich – Febr. 5th, 2018   An Avatar show is full of surprises, starting with the opening acts they bring along. Last time it has been Old Kerry McKee, a solo artist that played an acoustic gig and the Hellzapoppin Circus Freak show. Certainly nothing you would expect for opening a metal show. This time, they brought another surprise along. Starting with Dylan Walshe, also a solo artist who played an acoustic set with just his guitar and a harmonica. But that’s everything he needed, plus his voice, to create an amazing atmosphere. The audience loved him and clapped along to his catchy songs. Dylan Walshe is from Ireland, but currently lives Nashville. Definitely an artist you should check out and catch live, whenever he’s in your area. Second act that night were The Mahones. An Irish folk punk band from Canada. Their songs swept everyone of their feet. If you think of Dropkick Murphys and The Real McKenzies, you get an idea of what they sound like. That kind of music and the energy [Read More]

December 29, 2018

December 17th, 2018 In July 2018 All That Remains released dates for a short tour through Germany (Berlin, Cologne and Munich) in December 2018. Recently the band had to deal with the loss of their lead guitarist and founding member Oli Herbert in October 2018. On November 9th 2018 Massachusetts-based band released their latest record ‘Victim Of The New Disease’. The loss of a band member is one of the worst things that can happen to such a tight unit. Phil Labonte stated during the show, that in the first weeks after the tragic accident happened, they weren’t sure, if they would go on as a band and if the record would even be released. In the end they decided that Oli Herbert would have wanted them to go an. Also, Jason Richardson (ex- Chelsea Grin and Born Of Osiris) offered to help them out as lead guitarist for their upcoming tour dates. All That Remains chose different opening bands for each of the three dates. For the Backstage it was Heruin, a Munich based [Read More]
