Steel Panther highlights from San Francisco show!

November 21, 2013

Steel Panther on a Friday night? What better way to PARTY!! On November 8th, Steel Panther returned to the Regency Ballroom in San Francisco for another solid performance to a packed house.  They had two excellent opening bands, Hillbilly Herald and SpiralArms. Make sure to check out their write ups as well. When Steel Panther performs, it is always an amazing show. I know a lot of people think of them as only a heavy metal parody band, but you can’t ignore that these four guys are extremely talented musicians and can rival many metal bands out today with their talent. They make everyone miss the ’80s! You have the kick ass guitar riffs by Satchel, killer bass by Lexxi, solid drumming by Stix and the full on 80’s rockstar vocals by Michael.   You can check out a tribute video by Rockin Ryan which has footage and photos from their SF show:   Now in case you missed it, they recently released their video for their new song, “Party Like Tomorrow Is The End Of [Read More]

Throwback Thursday Music Feature is The Spent Poets

November 21, 2013

We all have our photos of us ready for Throwback Thursday filled with big hair, 80’s outfits, MC Hammer pants, flashdance shirts and so much more…. But what about the music? We need to have a Throwback Thursday Music Feature and here it is…. our first one. For my Throwback Thursday Music, is none other than The Spent Poets. I LOVED THIS BAND! I used to hang out at Paradise Lounge and DNA Lounge in San Francisco during the late ’80s and early ’90s and that is how I first found out about them. I think I first saw them when they were playing at the DNA Lounge and I picked up their self titled debut CD. Every single song became my fave. They had such a unique sound! I used to hear the story of how they started by Adam Gates and Matt Winegar making homemade tapes that eventually got in the hands of Matt Wallace who had produced Faith No More. Then they added John Berg on keyboards, Derek Greenberg on bass and [Read More]

PALAYE ROYALE is truly one of the best Indie Rock Bands you have to hear!

November 20, 2013

I have to introduce you to one of the best Indie Rock bands out today that you have to hear! They are PALAYE ROYALE and they are a fashion-art rock band that has one of the best sounds out there today.  From the first time I heard them, it literally took me to a different place and time. You know that scene in Ratatouille where the food critic takes a bite of the chef’s dish; ratatouille and it immediately takes him back to a comforting  moment in his childhood? If you haven’t seen it, watch it. So what if it is dubbed a kid’s movie; it is still bad ass.  Well that scene reminds me of the first time I listened to PALAYE ROYALE that is exactly what happened…. I was listening to Get Higher and almost immediately, I was back in my friend’s apartment listening to a cassette mix tape she made from her trip overseas the summer before. It must have been late ’80s and she played for me what soon became one [Read More]

The Broken Ravens from Scotland are our Tuesdays Travels Pick of the Week!

November 19, 2013

A great new rock band from the Stornoway from Isle of Lewis, Scotland called The Broken Ravens are our Tuesdays Travels Pick of the Week for Music from around the world!  You are really going to love this band, they remind me of a mix of Black Sabbath with Soundgarden. The Broken Ravens are Kevin Clark on Drums, Lotto Ferguson on Bass/Vocals, Calum ‘Thrash’ Macaulay on Guitar/Vocals and Bugsy Maclean on Guitar/Vocals. What is great about this band is that they each have very diverse musical influences and together they have created their own unique sound which has to be heard! We asked Kevin if they could name three of their biggest influences and here is what he told us, “As all our influences are so diverse, we nearly ended up in a big fight over choosing just three , but, after a struggle, we managed to get it down to 4. Our main inspirations are Slayer, Black Sabbath, Elmore James and Anathema”. The band has been working hard on putting the final touches on their debut album. Kevin [Read More]
