April 4, 2022

Emo/alternative rock pioneers The Juliana Theory have returned with their new single and video “Playback ’99 (Burn the Cassette Deck)”, which will appear on their upcoming EP “Still The Same Kids” Pt.1 available on May 6th from Rude Records/Equal Vision Records. The new EP features 4 songs that fully embrace the strengths of the band’s catalog of underground anthems without sacrificing an ounce of who the duo is now. Truth be told, The Juliana Theory always owed as much to The Beatles as to Sunny Deal Real Estate, with shades and shimmers of everything from Depeche Mode and Tears For Fears to The Foo Fighters in their arsenal. The first in a series of 3 EP’s to be released between now and 2023 on RUDE/EVR, “Still The Same Kids” Pt.1 is a successor to the band’s 2021 reimagined album “A Dream Away”, which featured newly encapsulated versions of beloved songs from prior releases. On the creative impetus behind “Playback ’99 (Burn the Cassette Deck)”, frontman Brett Detar had this to say: “At a crossroads somewhere [Read More]

Void Of Vision announce new EP “Chronicles II: Heaven”

April 4, 2022

A visionary collective of potent light and shade, Melbourne’s Void Of Vision have cleared the darkness and are set to usher in a tantalizing new chapter in their bustling journey, announcing today a brand new upcoming EP “CHRONICLES II: HEAVEN” which will be released on Friday 29 April on UNFD. Following on from the group’s 2021 EP “CHRONICLES I: LUST”, this impending new Void Of Vision endeavour draws its ethereal namesake from the group’s new creative direction and sense of purpose; a sonic exhibition of finding heaven on earth laden with cinematic and ambitious flair alongside Void Of Vision’s blossoming razor-sharp trademark wiles. Continuing on from the pathway set out by “LUST” last year, “HEAVEN” embraces personal growth and experimentation in true Void Of Vision fashion; tones of melancholy and introspection still protrude throughout the new release, but are also anchored by some of the first love songs VOV have ever created. Gone is the idolisation of misery and pain, and instead a permeating mantra for rising and rallying when all hope seems lost threads [Read More]

Petrol Girls announced their third album “Baby” today, which will be released June 24th via Hassle Records (Cargo). Both tracks will be on the upcoming record. Another taste of “Baby” is the new single “Clowns”. It comes with a live video that the band recorded in the Middle Farm studios (filmed by Martyna Bannister), where the album was recorded with producer Pete Miles. Singer Ren Aldrige about the song: “”Clowns” really shows the mood and the musical orientation of the majority of the album. The song is playful, a little bit weird and is built on a recurring riff. It was so much fun to write the track together. “Clowns” began with a lot of comedic placeholders, which allude to “Stuck In the Middle With You” from Stealer Wheel (“We are the clowns from the left/ But they ain’t [Read More]

Koyo release new single “Straight North”

March 30, 2022

Long Island, NY supergroup Koyo has released another new track, “Straight North” on Pure Noise records. “Like a lot of the bands Koyo is inspired by, I feel we exist on a bit of a spectrum sonically. Some songs are more high-energy and inspired by hardcore, others are more nuanced and ballad-like. Straight North exists more on the ballad side of the spectrum. ‘Straight North’ is a sister song of sorts to a track on our first EP called ‘Heaven So Heavy’. This song was written before any of the previous material. It’d been in the chamber for almost two years before we actually decided to record it as a single. Although it’s about a now very distant time in my life, I feel there’s potentially something tangible and meaningful there for people who may have felt or feel a similar way. I hope people can relate” says singer Joey Chiaramonte. There’s a lot of musical history on Long Island, especially when it comes to hardcore and punk. It was that heritage that the six [Read More]

Paddy And The Rats release new single/video “Everybody Get Up”

March 30, 2022

Boisterous Hungarian Celtic-punk pirates Paddy And The Rats throw an unforgettable pirate party with their second offering, “Everybody Get Up”, cut from their sixth album, “From Wasteland To Wonderland”. The gripping new track invites the listener to join in a celebratory drink on the high seas. “Everybody Get Up” promises catchy dance and sing-along tunes, delivering another taste of the upcoming album, out April 29 via Napalm Records. Paddy And The Rats on “Everybody Get Up”: “We shot quite an unusual video for our new single, ‘Everybody Get Up’. The song itself sticks out of the line a little bit, because it has a kind of hip hop vibe like our childhood favourite bands, the Beastie Boys and Run DMC, and that is not typical of us. We wanted to visualize it, so we are wearing absolute different style clothing in the clip, summoning the New York hip hop and hardcore bands outfit of the 80’s. We made a very cool and funny mood video that can’t be taken seriously, at all. So many bad [Read More]
