Ozone Mama, hailing from Budapest, Hungary have continued to capture my attention with their music. They have wholeheartedly given a fresh new facelift to the classic rock of the 60’s and 70’s. As I have mentioned before, they bring out a heavier vibe and an absolutely addictive sound. I can’t get enough of them. The gritty vocals of Marton are so infectious and sultry. He brings out such a nostalgia for 70s classic rock. The guitars are sexy and dirty and have that raw edge that the Golden Era of Classic Rock would maintain.

Ozone Mama has just released a new album, Sonic Glory and is a brilliant work of art. This album truly celebrates the authentic sound of rock and roll which has been missing for some time now in the scene. The seven song album is filled with the infectious rockin tracks reminiscent of the 60’s or 70’s yet swaddled in a modern vibe. The first thing that stood out is the amazingly authentic vintage sound that the album has and I love! Guitarist Andris Gabor comments about the recording,

The authentic sound is really important when it comes to making a record like Sonic Glory. We recorded all the instruments at once then we recorded vocals and additional instrument overdubs. We were using vintage gear for the recordings, old consoles from the 50’s, preamps from the 60’s or 70’s to achieve a warm sound. After the mixing and mastering the final result became warm yet modern sounding to fit 2015 standards, it had to be loud hence the title “Sonic Glory” 🙂
We are really happy with it, we have already gained tons of positive feedback, and as this is our third record, the expectations were so high. Third records are always milestones, lot of things depend on them when it comes to a band’s future.

Check out a video teaser about the making of the album:

The four-piece consisting of András Gábor (guitar), Márton Székely (vocals), Gergely Dobos (bass) and Máté Gulyás (drums) had recorded their new album at the L.V. Hangstúdió in Budapest, then sent it to the United States for finalizing. Mixing was done at the Karma Studio East in New York and the mastering took place at Marsh Mastering in Los Angeles, California.

The album kicks right off with a solid punch of rock on the song Good Times Roll. Right from the start, you know you are in for a wild ride with thrusting guitars, dirty fuzzy tones and vocals that hook you in. Back Door Man delivers a wallup of blues and southern rock that will have moving and grooving and is a personal favorite of mine.

Ozone Mama brings the lighters in the air for the ballad, Gypsy Girl as it takes you on a nomadic journey. The storytelling of the song captures the free spirit of the Gypsy Girl as you conjugate images of the unconstrained soul. Hard Times raises the heat with another slammin track that has some epic guitars.

Knights and Rulers is another personal favorite as it revs up the energy. You really appreciate the authentic sound on this song as the vocals are magnetic and powerful and are so in line with some smokingly fierce guitar riffs and precision drumming. This song is truly incredible, but so are all the songs.

Get ready to fall in love with Lovelight as it’s addictive melody will bring a sweet smile to your face. Well crafted song that will have you joining in and singing, Let your Lovelight shine. My spotlight song would be Siren’s Call, that has one of the most compelling intros that impressively transports you to a folk tale. You can’t help but be drawn into the journey and connect with the song and storyline. I love the energy that this song brings to life as it has such an expressive character.

Man on the Run brings the funk out with fuzzy guitars and creating a soulful rhythm. Hope starts off with the raw honesty of acoustics that sets an ethereal tone to an absolutely alluring track. It is blissful fuel for your soul. The album wraps up with the electrifying energy track of Ain’t No Place Like Mine. It is another stand out track that will have you rockin -n- rollin and begging for more Ozone Mama.

One thing is for sure, I thoroughly enjoyed the album from first track to last. Now I just have to hope for Ozone Mama to make it out to California. To hear their music is incredible, but their live performances have held such high regard that I just can’t wait to see them. As Andris says, “We play it loud and proud” – as we are a loud rockband in live situation. 🙂
