Frutas: Sin Color’s debut album set to rocket to the top.

August 22, 2017

Patrick O’Heffernan (Hollywood) You can always tell when an artist or band is going to rocket to the to the top.  They collect an award or two before their first release, draw big crowds when they play locally, and have an overflow audience for the album release party.  Sin Color – the duo of Crisia Regalado and David Aquino – has done all of that and something else – their debut album, Frutas,  is more than debut – it is ready now for prime time.  Not bad for two kids who just turned 20. Frutas is a tour de force of musical craftsmanship and sheer talent.  Each of its ten songs is a gem – there is no filler here. Crisia’s opera-trained voice soars and swoops and soothes, supported by David’s superb guitar chops and the backing of Latin Grammy-nominated accordion mistress Gloria Estrada, the great border blues duo The Dank Band, and the percussion genius of Buyepongo, all guided by top producer Eugene Toale.  For artists so young to assemble such a highly regarded group of artists and [Read More]

Pokey LaFarge exhilarated fans with a spellbinding performance at legendary Fillmore in SF

August 20, 2017

It was Saturday night and you could almost sense the magic that was about the take over the legendary Fillmore in San Francisco. The modern day troubadour, Pokey LaFarge was returning to the stage and it was sure to be quite a performance. The night kicked off with a captivating set from Ruston Kelly. The singer/songwriter brought to life his poetic lyrics as they shine with emotion. A couple of my favorite tracks of the set were Hollywood and Black Magic.  Ruston’s vocals and guitar playing was accompanied by a second guitarist and incredible pedal steel player. Together the trio delivered a powerful sound that filled with venue. The crowd grew with anticipation as the time for Pokey’s set was nearing. From the second the band hit the stage, the energy level skyrocketed and the fans went wild.  The historical venue was once again home to a stellar performance. Pokey LaFarge performed his infectious style of music, bringing together everything from rockabilly, country blues, western swing, jazz  and so much more. His music captures the [Read More]

August 14, 2017

Sam Hunt was a sold out show and you could tell by the amount of traffic on the freeways and streets. Cars parked randomly to beat the rush of traffic. People leaving their Uber and Lyft drivers on the freeway to jump the fence to stamped to the amphitheater because it was stopped traffic for miles. The usual hour and half drive to Shoreline became 3 hours of standstill traffic. You could see masses of cowboy boots and country attire walking the streets along with music of Sam Hunt in the air. Once this 32 year old Georgia boy hit the stage, the crowd went into a Beatles-like frenzy. Women screaming the lyrics to each song and dancing to the every beat. Sam Hunt played to the crowd’s excitement and continued playing into the night. The fans sensing the the end of the show, they soon gradually made their way to the stage. Once then last note was hit, fans raced to the stage to get a picture or even to get a chance [Read More]
