Day 9 of 12 Days of Guitarists goes to Orianthi

December 22, 2013

Today is our Day 9 of 12 Days of Guitarists and we are pleased to announce Orianthi as our feature.  Orianthi has had a long history shredding on the guitar and is absolutely amazing. She first picked up the acoustic guitar when she six years old and at age 11 she moved on to the electric and the rest is history. At the young of 28, this Greek Australian guitar virtuoso has led quite a successful career as a singer, songwriter, guitarist, and an amazingly all around talented musician.  Many might know her as the guitarist for late Michael Jackson and his ill-fated “This is It “Tour. She went on to not only perform with Alice Cooper’s live band, but her own highly successful solo career. Orianthi is amazing to watch. She makes it look so easy as she shreds on her PRS guitars. You are completely mesmerized as she displays her impeccable technique. This guitar rock goddess not only plays some bad ass guitar but she has an undeniable charismatic stage presence.  You can [Read More]

Jeff George and Danny Worsnop of Harlot join Camp Freddy on stage at the Roxy

December 22, 2013

Ok… so now I am really bummed about not making out to the 3 Day Camp Freddy Residency at The Roxy in Hollywood.  First I told you yesterday about Austin Winkler (formerly of Hinder) joined them on stage as he sang Born To Be Wild. (Read post here). Well, last night, I missed catching our featured guitarist Day 1 (Read Day 1 here), Jeff George of Harlot and his bandmate Danny Worsnop (Asking Alexandria) join Camp Freddy.  Guess what song they played? Poison Nothing But a Good Time which is so perfect since in our interview with Jeff earlier this year we asked  him to pick a song from the ’80s to be his anthem or theme song and  he chose… Poison Nothin But A Good Time.  You can check out Jeff and Danny here performing a cover of Poison’s Nothing But a Good Time here:   It was a wild night that included many special guests including Moby, Donovan,  Courtney Love, Billy Ray Cyrus , Moby, Slash and more!  Danny came out and sang three songs, [Read More]

December 21, 2013

We know that it was hard for all of us when we first heard the news of Austin Winkler‘s departure from Hinder but we were excited to know that he was going to continue on with his music career.  You can read more on our previous post here. Austin has been sharing posts on Instagram and Twitter letting us know about his new musical venture and has been hard at work on it.  I am elated to hear that and guess what, last  night Austin joined Camp Freddy on stage at the Roxy in Hollywood. I can KICK MYSELF since Rockin Ryan and I had plans to go to a couple of the Camp Freddy shows this week but family emergencies prevailed and fires had to be put out. Austin joined the guys on stage and sang Born To Be Wild.  Our friend told that he looked so happy to be back on that stage, which is exactly where he belongs. You can check out this video of his performance last night here: We will [Read More]

Day 8 of 12 Days of Guitarists goes to John 5!

December 21, 2013

Today on Day 8 of our 12 Days of Guitarists, we are pleased to feature John 5! John 5 has had quite an extensive guitar career, from playing with David Lee Roth, Marilyn Manson, and others. In addition to playing with Rob Zombie, he has continued to have quite a successful solo career. He is an amazing guitarist that shreds when he plays. He is a guitar virtuoso who can play you anything from bluegrass to flamenco, instrumental to country, and metal to rock and anything else in between. John started playing the guitar at age 7 and attributes his watching of Hee-Haw as a child for his love of Telecasters. He explains about on Hee-Haw, “they all played teles, so I thought that was the only guitar out there. I was so young and I thought I wanted an electric guitar and so it was a Telecaster. Lucky for me it was the greatest guitar in the world for me.”    John has recorded six guitar albums; Vertigo (2004), Songs for Sanity (2005), The Devil Knows My Name (2007),Requiem (2008), The Art of [Read More]

Countdown of 14 Bands That Will Rule 2014, #4 goes to The Pretty Reckless

December 21, 2013

We are in the # 4 spot on our Countdown of Bands that will rule in 2014 and the honor goes to The Pretty Reckless.  They are on fire right now and their highly anticipated full length album, “Going To Hell”  hasn’t even been released. They have had great success this year with a couple of their singles off their new album and had a successful Going To Hell fall tour so far. We had the opportunity to catch them on their Going To Hell tour when they stopped in San Francisco at Slim’s.  One thing is for sure The Pretty Reckless has amazing stage presence and their songs are so damn good. Taylor Momsen has stated in the past that her musical influences are Kurt Cobain and Joan Jett and that is exactly what you get with her! She has this amazing grunge style with this rockin attitude and knows how to work the crowd.  Ben Phillips on lead guitar and backing vocals was spot on and had some incredible guitar licks and cool slide.
