A conversation with Natalie Gelman: picked up a guitar at 16 and never looked back.

January 10, 2017

(Los Angeles)  Natalie Gelman is talented, courageous, beautiful, brainy, creative….and many more complementary adjectives.  But after listening to her music and following her career for the past three years, it is something she said at a Ted talk in 2014 in Seattle that will always stay with me.  “I live  in the question”.  Or, as she quoted Mike Tyson, “Everyone has a plan until they are punched in the face”.  Her openness to the vagaries of life and the possibilities of the future is the energy that electrifies her songs. And her music is electric, not in the guitar sense – she plays acoustic – but in its high voltage lyrics and thrumming arrangements. Listening to her is living in the question, because you never know how they will affect you.  I had an opportunity recently to ask about some of the questions she lives  and questions in the songs on her new album, Streetlamp Musician.   Patrick. A lot of things have happened  to you since we last talked. You have released more [Read More]

Interview with Finn Bell of the 90’s grunge-infused alt rockers Love Ghost!

December 23, 2016

We recently featured a new favorite band of ours, the 90’s grunge-infused alt/rockers Love Ghost. The Los Angeles band was formed 15-year-old frontman Finn Bell and the band features teenagers who are well beyond their years with their music. They bring out our love of 90’s grunge but blended with alt rock and a modern sound. Finn who is the lead vocalist and lyricist highlights his songwriting by taking you on an emotional journey. He describes his process as a continuous stream of consciousness, drawn from his emotional response. Bell expresses ‘It’s a shame that people tend to shy away from anything that feels too personal, because those types of things let you know who you really are.’ We recently had a chance to chat with Finn Bell and are pleased to share our interview with you here: * * * * * * * *  Music Junkie Press: Did you or do you have a strong musical program in your schools that fostered your love for music? Finn: No, not as much. I learned [Read More]

Interview with RADKEY as they delivered a fierce punk rock set in San Francisco out on their tour!

November 23, 2016

One band I am truly thankful for…. is Radkey! Holy shit, they have blown me away and I am hooked on them.  We recently brought you the coverage from their San Francisco show at Neck of the Woods with The Fame Riot. The night was great and Radkey  WOWed us with their stellar set. They are truly a punk rock phenomenon that has to be heard! I must tell you, that I was grinning ear to ear from start to finish watching them perform. It has been a long time for me since I stood in amazement as I knew I was witnessing this incredible band, and I might not have the chance to experience them in such an intimate venue again. They are destined for a bright future as they remind me of the early days of  Misfits, Ramones, or Nirvana. The band features three Radke brothers, Dee  on guitars/vocals, Isaiah on bass/vocals and Solomon on drums. They are a mighty three that will blow you away with their music. Interview with The Fame Riot as they bring nasty beats and truthful melodies to the stage out on their tour!

November 23, 2016

We recently brought you our coverage of The Fame Riot as they performed in San Francisco along with Radkey at the Neck of the Woods. It was quite a show and what will be a rare treat to catch these amazing bands in an intimate venue setting. I completely believe that it won’t be long that they will be playing large capacity venues as they explode onto the music scene. The Fame Riot features brothers Liz and Shazam. They truly are incredible and dish up “feel good” music that has you dancing and letting go of any concerns or stress. Their music brings out a nostalgic vibe of 70’s glam/rock as well as the infectious style of 90’s alternative/dance, and a heaping side of modern day electro pop. You can’t just box them into any one genre, as they defy the boundaries and have successfully created their own unique style of music, complete with a dazzling fierce fashion style. We had a chance to chat with Liz and Shazam ahead of their performance at the Neck [Read More]
