Facebook Changes.. What does it all mean? Here it is…

September 23, 2011

Okay so you know that we have had numerous crazy changes on Facebook for the past few years. Every time it happens, everyone starts complaining and became irate with all the changes. The addage, “If it ain’t broke… don’t fix it” became synonomous with Facebook Makeovers…. Here is what I think… Yes, Facebook is free and some are saying, “If you don’t like it, don’t use it”. That is not as easy as one thinks, since Facebook has provided so many with great times connecting with old friends, keeping up to date with family members and to feel part of a community of friends. Whatever the need, it was satisfied at the time by Facebook. It was like an addiction was created and every time they changed, we had to look at our addiction square in the face and decide if it was worth itm. Most of the time; it was and we crippled along to learn the new settings. I think Facebook has been making minor and some major changes for a while now [Read More]

Y & T Bassist Phil Kennemore RIP 1953-2011

January 8, 2011

Y & T Bassist, Phil Kennemore dies at the young age of 57 from lung cancer. WOW, that was some hard news to swallow. Growing up in the Bay Area, I am truly a long time Y & T (Yesterday and Today) fan. Frontman Dave Meniketti formed Y & T, the hard rock group, along with Phil Kennemore back in 1972 in Oakland, CA. Y & T has had a few member changes over the years but Phil and Dave were always there. I had heard last year that Phil was diagnosed with stage 4 Lung Cancer and was devastated. I didn’t realize that in just a few short months of hearing that, he would be gone. On NYE 2010, there was a benefit for Phil Kennemore at the Avalon. I was trying to work out how I could go to the benefit but I missed it. I heard it was incredible. Dave Meniketti confirmed the news of Phil’s passing on a blogpost and also had the following tribute: “As a musician, with those huge [Read More]

Puddle of Mudd, Burn Halo and the Veer Union – April 5, 2010

April 7, 2010

We went to see Puddle of Mudd in San Francisco and found out they were playing at one of my old stomping grounds; Slims. If you haven’t read it yet, my previous post covers Slim’s and what a great place it is! The tickets for the show were only $25 and was a great deal since we found out that there would be two opening acts! $25 for three bands. The kids (my son Ryan and his friend, Javier) were really excited about that since they are soon building their history of bands they have seen in concert. When we got there, of course the boys went straight to the merchandise tables and Ryan rushed to buy the autographed drum head to add to his growing collection! They were even more amazed when they found the band members of the opening band selling the merchandise. They took no time to ask them to autograph the CDs and the posters! First up was The Veer Union. This band comes from Vancouver, Canada and consists of five [Read More]

Slim’s San Francisco – an old friend

April 6, 2010

Yesterday I was going to cover another concert in San Francisco. When I learned the venue was going to be Slim’s – it was like finding an old friend on Facebook. My history with Slim’s is a long one. Slim’s which was opened in 1988 by legendary R & B Artist; Boz Scaggs and was right around the time that I was going to concerts on a 3 x week basis. Slim’s was my favorite place to see concerts since it would book big name acts but you would be able to see them in an intimate setting. I could remember that it was always a clean nightlcub with very good service at the bar as well as a balcony where you could order some “good eats” and kick back and watch a great show. It has been at least 10 years since my last visit to Slim’s and when I turned down 11th Street and saw the familiar neon Slim’s sign I was growing more excited to visit my old friend and wondered how [Read More]
