June 3, 2014

One of my absolute FAVORITE bands is set to release their new album in less than 2 weeks! I am talking about The Quireboys (aka London Quireboys) and their new album Black Eyed Sons which will be available on June 16th.  I have been so excited for this release and am ready to rock out to it! This year The Quireboys are celebrating 30 years of Rockin and there is no letting up from them. In addition to the new album, they will be heading out on a tour. If I wasn’t excited enough about the album, imagine the screams that ensued as I saw a California show planned on the dates! YES!!!!! I am ready. Now to get you all excited for the new album, how about the following video of The Quireboys performing one of their tracks off the forthcoming album. The video is taken off their new LIVE DVD recorded at the O2 Academy, Islington in October 2013. Definitely a must have DVD. Check out This is Rock n Roll: It just [Read More]

Interview with Kenji Williams, Director of Bella Gaia: dance, music and video from space.

May 12, 2014

Interview with Kenji Williams,  Director of Bella Gaia: dance, music and video from space. by Patrick O’Heffernan, Host, Music Friday Live  Kenji Williams is a genius. That is all there is to it.  The idea of combining NASA photography and video from space with music and dance is sheer genius. That’s exactly what he did in creating the live performance known as Bella Gaia – “Beautiful Earth” now on its world tour.    Bella Gaia shows how humans and nature are connected, and how art and science are connected while it explores the relationship between human civilization and our ecosystem through time and space in a music and dance performance like no other.  The video is stunning, the music is mesmerizing, the dancers and the costumes rival those of major city opera companies. Williams took time from preparations for his performance in Santa Barbara to talk with me about Bella Gaia.   Patrick.  Kenji, where did the idea to combine video from space with dance and music come from? Kenji.  It started with a meeting [Read More]

Y & T celebrating 40 YEARS of Rockin The Planet!

April 10, 2014

One of my favorite rock bands of all time, Y&T is celebrating 40 years of Rockin The Planet. Maybe one of the reasons I have always loved them is that they were a local band from the Bay Area and I saw them perform maybe over 25 times.  Y & T started in Oakland, California and originally released their first couple albums under the name Yesterday & Today. Since 1974 they have released 18 albums, three greatest hits collections, plus a box set and have sold over 4 million albums. Long before Motley Crue, Guns n Roses, RATT, Metallica, there was Y&T and they are one of the founding rock bands that set the standard for many to rock! They have never stopped rockin the planet and there is no slowing down in sight for these guys. You can celebrate their 40 year anniversary by purchasing their “40” design tee which is available on their website here: http://store.meniketti.com/   Also make sure to catch them out on tour. Y&T promises to deliver a high energy powerful set [Read More]

Day 2 of Guitarists goes to Sid Glover of Heaven’s Basement

December 15, 2013

Today is Day 2 of our Guitarists and we are proud to bring you Sid Glover of Heaven’s Basement. Sid is a madman on his Gibson.  We saw Sid a couple times this year and he just doesn’t disappoint.  Heaven’s Basement quickly rose to fame in the States this year and we couldn’t wait to see Sid play live at Aftershock Festival in September. It was our first time seeing them and it was awesome to see them play the big Monster stage.  Read more about their Aftershock performance here. In October we had the opportunity to see Heavens Basement play a smaller venue  in San Francisco when they opened up for The Pretty Reckless. It was a packed house at Slim’s and it was a stellar evening that included Louna from Russia and the whole night was amazing! Here is a video interview we did with Sid and Aaron from Heaven’s Basement when they played in San Francisco.   Heaven’s Basement truly has an incredible electrifying stage presence. These four guys give a 150% [Read More]

Interview with Full Moon Rising; a truly heartwarming musical project

December 1, 2013

Music has always been that special friend that I can turn to in times of trouble, times of celebration or just plain anytime!  Music truly has a magical effect on me and I love when the first time I hear some music, it truly touches my soul and makes a positive impact on me. Recently for me, that music has been of Full Moon Rising. I learned about Full Moon Rising shortly after we ran our interview with Raz Klinghoffer of EarlyRise. Full Moon Rising is an International Music Project by the highly talented Daniel Tyler Pohnke. Shortly after losing his mother in 2000, Daniel was inspired to write his first song. That was the beginning of the heartwarming and soul touching journey of Daniel’s music. He then set off to record his songs in various countries collaborating with a different producer and unique culturally diverse musicians on each track. From that, “Brave New World – The Time is NOW!” was born.  It is an amazing work of art that captivates your every emotion and [Read More]
