Back Garden Light release their debut EP – On European tour now. Contributed by Alex Bock

June 14, 2016

Back Garden Light, a band from France, that we recently introduced to you, released their debut EP called ‘Life’s A Game’ on June 10th. We checked it out for you. The EP starts off with a powerful intro that invites the listener to hold on tight as Back Garden Light takes them on a wild ride. The six song EP brings high energy tracks that blend pop punk with a heavier side of Metalcore. You are treated with infectious melodies that will have you singing along and the double bass will get your blood pumping. Offensive is a spotlight track as it brings a heavy vibe to the forefront. Their music can be described as a blend of Asking Alexandria meets Falling in Reverse, yet they have easily created their own signature style. Sideline is an upbeat track that highlights everything from vocal chants, heavy growls, aggressive guitar chugs, and everything for you to become addicted to the track. The EP can be ordered at http://backgardenlight.bigcartel.com/product/bgl-life-s-a-game-bundle-limited-30 But better be quick, because this is a limited [Read More]

Concert Review: Combichrist, Filter, Lord Of The Lost, Rabia Sorda

June 12, 2016

Munich, Backstage Werk, June 5th, 2016 Right on time with the release of their newest album ‘This is where death begins’, Combichrist started their ‘Make Europe Great Again’ tour, which will keep them on our beautiful continent until late July. They’re taking three bands out on tour, Filter, Lord Of The Lost and Rabia Sorda. First off, you got to go see that show. The energy those bands bring on stage is one of a kind. Rabia Sorda and Lord Of The Lost, both German bands, created an awesome atmosphere from the beginning. It’s not a common thing for opening bands to get as much positive responses from the crowd. Not so that day. When Rabia Sorda entered the stage at 7.30 pm, the people were still pouring into the venue, since they only opened a small side entrance. Some people might have missed parts of a good show, which is always a bit annoying. Lord Of The Lost played a one hour set, which is pretty long, considering them as an opening act [Read More]

Concert review The Word Alive with Coyotes, Polar and Annisokay. Contributed by Alex Bock

June 1, 2016

Wiesbaden, Schlachthof, May 23rd, 2016 This time I made a bit of a longer trip to cover a show for you and I chose the Schlachthof in Wiesbaden. The venue was recently rebuilt. It reopened at the end of 2015. Everything is still shiny and new and it’s a nice venue of the small and cozy kind. Just two months after the release of their recent record ‘Dark Matter’ The Word Alive went out on European Tour that included, besides a few German dates, also Slam Dunk Festival dates in the UK. By the time you read this, the tour is over and they’re back in the US relaxing and probably rehearsing for the upcoming Warped Tour Cycle, which the band will be on again. But back to the Wiesbaden show. Telle and Dani took their time to sit down with us and talk about the tour, the record, Warped Tour and much more. Check the interview out here: Show started around 7 pm. The Word Alive had three support bands, two of them [Read More]

Concert review: Four Year Strong with Holly Would Surrender and Newdrive by Alex Bock

May 8, 2016

Munich, Strom, May 4th, 2016   When I got to the venue at about 15 minutes before doors there were about 15 people waiting outside. Luckily this changed fast, when people came pouring in. The Strom is only a small club, but it was packed tightly that night. Four Year Strong played an incredibly powerful set from the first to the last note. The audience went nuts from the get go. The started out with ‘We All Float Down Here’ and everyone was moving along. After the third song a woman in the front row started yelling at the band and everyone in general. She then crawled onto the stage and sat there for a while, fumbling around with her phone. Everyone was so surprised I guess, they let her be on stage for a whole song, where she (more or less) danced on stage and tried to yell again into every microphone. She was then led off stage, where she still yelled around, but then left entirely. After that minor incident, which was really [Read More]

Concert Review D-A-D and Thundermother in Munich by Alex Bock

May 8, 2016

Munich, Backstage, Werk, April 30, 2016 D-A-D might be a band more known to the generation 40 plus, because their high time I’d say was around the late 80’s/early 90’s, where their more famous songs like ‘Sleeping My Day Away’ and ‘Girl Nation’ were aired. Nevertheless, there were also younger people in the audience that night. The Danish band, who was named Disneyland After Dark in their early days, are around for over 30 years now. In 2014 they released a compilation that recollects their greatest songs over the period of 1984-2014. That night was reserved for two of their greatest records ‘No Fuel Left For The Pilgrims’ (1989) and ‘Riskin’ It All’ (1991), which they played in full. It really was a hell of a show, which lasted about two hours. After the performance of ‘Riskin’ It All’ was a short break. ‘No Fuel For The Pilgrims’ was played back to front, which left ‘Sleeping My Head Away’ as the last song on the bill. But as if two hours of non-stop [Read More]

Introducing Back Garden Light from France. Contributed by Alex Bock

April 25, 2016

Today I’d like to introduce an up and coming band from France to you. They’re called Back Garden Light. Matthieu Kirby, their rhythm guitarist, sat down to answer some questions that give you some insights on the band. Band members / instruments Max Desgarnier : Vocals Louis Seguin : Lead Guitar Tom Saulnier : Bass Lilian Camelio : Drums Matthieu Kirby : Rythm Guitar Where do you come from? We come from Bordeaux, France Is there a story behind the band name ? Well, we wanted something that sounds good with a bad English accent for the French people. At first we wanted to name the band Anchorless Heroes, but with a bad English (French) accent, it sounded like you were saying “oh fuck cirrhosis again !!!So we came up with Back Garden Light because we liked the idea of this small light in the night in a backyard. Somehow we feel Nostalgia thinking about this. How did you form? Louis wanted to form a band and we all knew each other so everything went [Read More]

April 25, 2016

Beartooth released a video for their brand new song ‚Agressive‘ yesterday. The song is taken from their upcoming record with the same title. ‘Aggressive’ will be released June 3rd and can already be pre-ordered via the band’s homepage www.beartoothband.com Their debut album ‘Disgusting’  was released in 2014. Since then songs like ‘The Lines’, ‘Beaten In Lips’, ‘In Between’ and ‘Body Bag’ had over 10 million views on YouTube, while Beartooth toured the globe with Slipknot, Pierce The Veil, Bring Me The Horizon and Sleeping With Sirens, they hit the stages at Reading And Leeds Festival, Download and Vans Warped Tour. Quite some achievements in a really short time span. Beartooth’s sound is a mix of Metalcore, Old-School-Punk, Vintage-Sreamo and the heavy side of Pop Punk, all spiced with a strong pinch of flamboyance. Was Disgusting the sound of a loner on his way up, Aggressive is the battlecry, never to get pushed back into the dark. Beartooth’s second record for Red Bull Records is unloading itself in relentless anger and iron will. It’s the inevitable [Read More]
